iOS 15 Beta 6 new features summary: focus on improving Safari browsing experience

After a week, Apple today released the 6th Beta update of iOS 15. This update brings a lot of new features, redesigns Safari, removes SharePlay, watch face automation, and more.

Safari Redesign

In iOS 15 Beta 6, Apple added a toggle switch that moves the Safari address bar to the top of the interface, which returns Safari to an iOS 14-like design and mitigates all Safari changes introduced in earlier beta versions.

Those who prefer the bottom bar still have the option to open it in Tab Bar view, but Apple has also changed the look and feel, and the URL bar at the bottom has been merged with a dedicated control panel, no longer trying to merge all page management options into a single address bar view.

Safari design options let you switch between a tab bar at the bottom or individual tabs at the top, plus there are switches for disabling site coloring and enabling or disabling a horizontal tab bar. “Allow site coloring” appears to be the same “Show color in tab bar” setting that was available in earlier betas. You can switch between the two views in Safari using the “Aa” menu in Safari without having to access the Safari app.

Safari Bookmarks and History

When you access Safari history, bookmarks, and reading list in iOS 15 and open the bottom tab bar view, the interface appears from the bottom and takes up less screen space. When Single Tab is enabled, the interface looks the same as before.

SharePlay has been removed

Apple has temporarily removed the feature in this beta version. When iOS 15 ‌, iPadOS 15, tvOS 15, and macOS Monterey are launched, there will be no SharePlay feature available.

Apple plans to reintroduce SharePlay in a later software update after it debuts with the iOS 15 ‌, iPadOS 15 ‌, tvOS 15, and macOS Monterey updates this fall.

Dial Automation

The fifth beta of iOS 15 removed the automation for setting the watch face on the Apple Watch at a specific time, but in the sixth beta, the option is available again in the Shortcuts app.
