Why are mobile phone batteries getting bigger and bigger, but their battery life is getting shorter?

Today's mobile phones are good in every way, except that the batteries are too short-lived. In the past, mobile phones could be charged once every two days, and even earlier feature phones could last a week without charging. Compared with the past, charging a mobile phone twice a day is sometimes not enough, and many people have to carry a power bank with them all the time.

If we compare the changes in mobile phone batteries, we will find that the batteries of mobile phones are much larger than those of previous years. So why is it that the battery has become larger but the power consumption has become less durable?

Large screens consume more power, and high refresh rates increase the burden

In the past, those mobile phones that could be used for a week after fully charging were all old-fashioned feature phones, and such phones are still available today. One important reason why these phones are durable is that they have small screens, which do not consume much power. However, today's mobile phones are all large-screen phones. Not only are the sizes of the phones larger than in the past, but the screen area is also several times that of those feature phones. As the screen gets bigger, the phone will of course consume more power.

In addition, the quality of mobile phone screens is getting higher and higher, with many new features and parameters, such as 2K screen and high refresh rate. These parameters can prove the quality of a screen, but at the same time they also bring a heavier burden to the power consumption of mobile phone screens. Therefore, mobile phones with high refresh rates now consume more power than those without high refresh rates.

As the screen size of mobile phones increases, it is possible for mobile phones to realize more functions. Therefore, mobile phones now have many more functions than in the past. They can not only be used to watch TV series and videos, but also to play various popular games. These functions consume a lot of power, so we need to charge the phone several times a day.

This does not mean that the battery life is not good, but that the mobile phone has added many new functions that consume power. After all, in the era of feature phones, we could not imagine that mobile phones can also be used to play large games and watch movies. These are new functions that have gradually emerged after the popularity of smartphones. Now they are commonplace, but more than ten years ago, they were unthinkable.

More frequent use consumes power faster

Because mobile phones have more and more functions and are more and more fun, we use them more and more frequently and spend more and more time on them every day. This causes the battery of mobile phones to be consumed faster, and we have to charge them several times a day to keep them charged. In the era of feature phones, mobile phones had few functions and small screens. At most, we used them to play music and some small games without connecting to the Internet. These functions are definitely very power-saving functions now. If you only use your phone to play music, then today's smartphones can also be charged once a day.

From this point of view, the reason why smartphones consume power quickly is not because the battery is not durable, but because we use our phones too frequently and have too many power-consuming functions. Playing games and watching TV shows are all big power consumers. If you often use your phone to do these things, the battery will definitely run out of power soon. How many times do you need to charge your phone every day?
