The latest report released by data research firm Canalys shows that thanks to the success of the iPhone 13, Apple phones accounted for 22% of global smartphone shipments in 2021, taking the top spot in the global smartphone market, followed by Samsung with a 20% market share. In addition, Xiaomi ranked third with 12%, OPPO ranked fourth with 9%, and vivo ranked in the top five with 8%. Canalys pointed out in the report that Apple accounted for 22% of global smartphone shipments at the end of 2021. The last time Apple took the first place was in the fourth quarter of 2020. Analyst Sanyam Chaurasia said: "Apple is performing well in mainland China because its flagship devices are aggressively priced and therefore have high value. Apple's supply chain is recovering, but production capacity was forced to be reduced in the fourth quarter because of a shortage of key components and it was unable to manufacture enough iPhones." The iPhone 13 went on sale in September, with shipments exceeding 40 million units during the year-end holiday season. Samsung ranked second with a market share of about 20%, Xiaomi ranked third with a share of 12%, OPPO ranked fourth with a share of 9%, and Vivo ranked fifth with a share of 8%. Due to chip shortages, Apple cut iPhone 13 production capacity by more than 10% in October. |
