According to the latest news from Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, many built-in applications of the iOS system will be completely revamped in iOS 18, including memos, emails, photos, fitness, etc.

As for what the revision will look like, Gurman did not elaborate, perhaps because the information he received was very limited.

However, according to previous rumors, the memo will support the display of mathematical symbols. The addition of this feature will make it more convenient for users to record mathematical formulas, scientific calculations and other content, meeting application needs in professional scenarios.

In addition to the upgrade of the memo, there are already a lot of revelations about iOS 18. The main new features include:

Smarter Siri: Apple will bring generative AI features to Siri, Spotlight, Shortcuts, Apple Music, Messages, Health, Keynote, Numbers, and Pages, which are expected to be powered by Apple's device-side large language model (LLM). However, there are also reports that Apple is also considering working with third-party AI companies.

Customizable home screen: iOS 18 will further open up DIY functions, allowing users to customize home screen app icons. This change will allow spaces, rows, and columns between app icons.

Improved interoperability with Android text messages: Apple has officially announced that it will begin supporting the cross-platform messaging standard RCS in the Messages app on the iPhone later this year. If nothing unexpected happens, this will also be one of the new features of iOS 18.

Calculator upgrade: The Calculator app will receive a major update in iOS 18, including a sidebar listing recent calculations, an improved unit conversion interface, integration with the Notes app, etc. In addition, the Calculator app is expected to appear in the iPadOS system, which means that iPad models will also have a Calculator app.

Safari adds a new AI assistant: iOS 18 may add an AI assistant to the Safari browser, similar to the Copilot assistant of Microsoft browser, providing relevant new AI features.

AirPods hearing aids: According to previous reports by Gurman, Apple will bring a "hearing aid mode" to AirPods Pro models in iOS 18, and this feature may also support the AirPods 4 headphones released this fall.

Maps supports custom routes: The Maps app that comes with iOS 18 will support custom routes and terrain maps. Custom routes will allow users to choose specific roads when navigating, while terrain maps include details such as trails, contour lines, elevation, and points of interest for hiking and other outdoor uses.
