The difference between SEO for large websites and SEO for small and medium-sized websites

Some SEO students often ask me, what is the difference between SEO for large websites and SEO for small and medium-sized websites?

From my experience of working on large websites for more than ten years, I think there are mainly the following differences:

First, SEO for large websites pays more attention to details. The SEO for small and medium-sized websites does not need to be comprehensive, you only need to grasp a few important points to achieve a good ranking. For example, why quick ranking is so popular on small and medium-sized websites is because quick ranking only focuses on one point, which is the click-through rate. Improve keyword rankings by increasing click-through rates.

Second, the SEO of large websites focuses on the optimization of the entire site, with more emphasis on long-tail words. The SEO for small and medium-sized websites focuses on the optimization of single pages or even single keywords, paying attention to popular words.

Third, to do a good job in SEO for large websites, cooperation from other departments is needed. The SEO of small and medium-sized websites can even be done by one person. Therefore, you will find that working as an SEOER on a large website pays more attention to planning and communication skills. Because you don't need to do it yourself, you just need to convince everyone to cooperate. As for SEO of small and medium-sized websites, since they are in small companies with fewer staff, they have to rely more on themselves to complete it. Therefore, SEOERs for small and medium-sized websites value execution capabilities. This execution capability includes the ability to build websites, write articles, and post external links.

Fourth, to do a good job in SEO for large websites, a lot of manpower and resources are needed. Especially in the early stages of a large website, it is not easy to do a good job in SEO. Because an SEO only plays a supporting role, the quality of a website mainly depends on the two major departments of operation and product. Operations here include the editorial team. To build a small and medium-sized website well, it does not require a lot of manpower and resources, and the results will be seen faster.

Fifth, the development of large websites mainly depends on long-term ranking, that is, persistent ranking. I coined this term, and this is how my company was born. The survival of small and medium-sized enterprises depends on fast sorting. Because quick ranking can quickly rank and acquire customers, allowing the company to survive. However, if you want your business to develop over the long term, you will eventually have to take the long route.

In short, whether it is large-scale website SEO or small and medium-sized website SEO, if you want to develop, you have to take the road of long-term ranking. Only by using formal SEO operation techniques can the ranking be sustained. Of course, for start-up companies, both fast sorting and long sorting technologies may need to be used in combination. This is the reason why we say survive first and then develop.
