The largest dinosaur we've discovered so far is the Seismosaurus, which measured 39 to 52 meters in length! It could reach a height of 18 meters!! And weighed up to 130 tons!! That means if two or three Seismosaurus stood head to tail, they could stretch from one goal to the other in a football field. And if such a massive creature were to walk across the plains, each stomp of its enormous feet would cause the earth to tremble, like an earthquake. This is the meaning behind the name "Seismosaurus."

Zhenlong

Zhenlong lived during the Late Jurassic period, approximately 162 to 136 million years ago. In animal taxonomy, it belongs to the order Saurischia, suborder Sauropoda, family Diplodocidae. Besides Zhenlong, other large sauropod dinosaurs that lived on Earth at that time included Diplodocus (26 meters long), Brontosaurus (21 meters long, 25 tons in weight), Supersaurus (42 meters long, 5.19 meters high at the shoulder, 4.58 meters high at the hip), Mamenchisaurus (22 meters long), and Brachiosaurus (25 meters long, 30-50 tons in weight), among others.

These enormous dinosaurs were herbivores; their towering bodies and long necks allowed them to reach leaves high in the trees. Such massive sizes must have required enormous appetites, but these dinosaurs all had relatively small heads and mouths. How did they manage to feed so much? They probably had to eat constantly. Scientists speculate that Mamenchisaurus spent 23 hours a day feeding! This is likely a world record.

Just imagine how many leaves a Mamenchisaurus would eat in 23 hours, and what about the thousands upon thousands of other Mamenchisaurus, and even more other giant sauropod dinosaurs? It seems that back then, the Earth must have been lush with vegetation and covered in forests, with an extremely favorable natural environment, allowing so many enormous creatures to live so leisurely on Earth.

Today, we no longer see such enormous animals on land; perhaps only the blue whale, which lives in the ocean, can compare to them. Female blue whales can grow to over 30 meters long and weigh up to 200 tons.
