There are at least six individuals of *Qilong* found in the Dashanpu dinosaur fauna, two of which have relatively complete specimens preserved in the burial hall. The holotype specimen of *Qilong* is an incomplete skeleton lacking a skull, housed at the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, with a skeleton length of approximately 4 meters.

Jiansheqilong was a group of carnivorous dinosaurs from the Middle Jurassic period, exhibiting primitive morphological characteristics. It had a light skull, laterally flattened, dagger-shaped teeth with small serrations along the anterior and posterior edges; its forelimbs were degenerate, and it primarily used its robust hind limbs for locomotion, making it agile runners. It was the dominant species in the Dashanpu dinosaur fauna.
