This little black box can crack the passcode of almost any iPhone

It doesn't matter whether you add a fingerprint to your iPhone. Anyone can easily bypass the lock screen and access your emails and photos. The International Business Times reported that for just £120, any Internet user can buy a special hardware device to crack the password protection of the first iPhone.

Here's how to use the device:

The main part of this device is called "IP-BOX", which can brute-force the iPhone passcode, that is, repeatedly guess the password until it is correct.

The iPhone was designed to handle this kind of brute force cracking, and its software limits the number of times a user can guess the password. In addition, users can set it in the settings menu to automatically clear the contents of the phone after entering the wrong password 10 times. However, IP-BOX can break through all protections. Users using TouchID fingerprint authentication will not help either, because even if Touch ID is turned on, the phone can still be unlocked with a password.

IP-BOX can directly connect to mobile phone hardware, thus bypassing software restrictions.

The IP-BOX has a lead that connects to the inside of the iPhone. This lead is directly connected to the battery, and when it detects that the password is entered incorrectly, the IP-BOX can automatically cut off the power. This means that the phone will be powered off before the phone detects that someone is trying to crack the password.

After that, the IP-BOX will be free to guess the password. Through the light sensor close to the iPhone screen, the IP-BOX will know whether the password entered is correct or not. This sensor can sense the light brightness of the screen and judge its changes. If a change is noticed, it means that the screen is unlocked and the password is correct.

This photo shows the IP-BOX in use. The orange numbers on the box are the passwords currently being tried.

It is also very easy to buy an IP-BOX. Some websites sell them for less than £120, and the sellers do not check the identity of the buyers. Anyone can buy an IP-BOX, whether it is a hacker who wants to crack an iPhone or a legitimate smartphone repair shop.

In fact, this product is also sold on eBay.

When the IP-BOX is connected to the iPhone, it will guess all the passwords from 0000 to 9999. This may take more than 100 hours, but the success rate of cracking will be 100%.

However, IP-BOX also has some other limitations. For example, if your phone uses a passcode of more than four digits, it will become very difficult to crack it by brute force. The iPhone provides an option to help users create a more complex passcode. This will prevent devices like IP-BOX from cracking it.

IP-BOX also does not work with the cracking of iOS 8.1.1. This update fixes a vulnerability used by devices like IP-BOX. However, not all iPhones have been updated. And iPhone 4 and older cannot be updated, so the vulnerability will remain.

If you want to use IP-BOX to crack an iPhone running iOS 8, you need to buy a special adapter chip. Similar to IP-BOX, this adapter chip costs $49.99 and is easy to buy.
