WeChat lifts 5,000 friends limit, but users can no longer view Moments

Since WeChat became a work app, the number of friends of many people has increased rapidly, and has even reached the upper limit of WeChat friends: 5000. In the past, WeChat did not allow new contacts after the upper limit of 5000, but now WeChat seems to have lifted the upper limit of 5000 friends, but friends after 5000 cannot view Moments.

According to Sanyan Finance, WeChat accounts with more than 5,000 friends can still continue to add new friends, but a prompt will appear when adding: many friends already can see your Moments and other content, and newly added friends can only be set to "chat only."

In addition, the permission setting for this type of friends is "one-way restricted". Users with 5,000+ friends can view the Moments, WeChat Sports and other information of newly added friends, but the other party has no permission to view it.

The official move may be aimed at maintaining the privacy of WeChat. If there is no upper limit on the number of friends and these friends can see the content of one's Moments, it may lead to uncontrolled advertising on the screen and personal privacy will be difficult to protect.

Currently, Tencent customer service shows that WeChat can add up to 5,000 friends (excluding groups and public accounts).
