According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, on February 5, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced to the public a list of 26 companies whose apps illegally accessed microphone, address book, photo album and other permissions. So far, after verification and re-inspection by a third-party testing agency, 10 apps have not completed rectification as required.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated that in accordance with the requirements of laws and regulatory documents such as the Cybersecurity Law and the Interim Provisions on the Pre-installation and Distribution Management of Mobile Smart Terminal Application Software (MIIT [2016] No. 407), our ministry organized the removal of the above 10 apps. Relevant application stores should immediately organize the removal of the applications on the list after the release of this notice.

Xiao Yaqing, Minister of Industry and Information Technology, said at a press conference recently that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has carried out special rectification on apps since last year, and we have also carried out special rectification on issues that the public has strongly complained about together with other departments. For example, we have carried out special rectification on microphones on mobile phones and communication addresses in mobile phones. Xiao Yaqing pointed out that the rectification has been effective overall. With the further improvement of requirements this year, we will continue to carry out such rectification and deal with the use of personal information in the key areas reported by everyone according to the principle of minimum availability.
