It is necessary to briefly introduce Flutter to those users who are not familiar with it. Flutter is an open source UI SDK created by Google to help developers who want to build applications for operating systems such as Android, Linux, Mac, iOS, Windows, Google Fuchsia, etc.

With Flutter, developers can get an easy-to-use mobile and desktop application development experience, and can quickly develop applications for desktop, mobile, and web. Flutter's continued high popularity and discussion also prove that Google's open source, cross-platform UI SDK has been popular among developers.

Ubuntu is betting big on Flutter

Canonical is an avid supporter of Flutter. A year ago, Canonical began working with Google and earlier this year made the Flutter SDK available on Linux as a Snap, a common software deployment and package management system for Ubuntu and other GNU/Linux distributions.

Ken VanDine, who is part of the Ubuntu desktop team at Canonical, appeared at Google's recent Flutter Engage event to convey the company's full support for the technology.

Ken said: "We (Canonical) not only enabled Flutter for Linux, we also worked with the Flutter team to launch the Flutter SDK on the Linux app store Snap Store. By releasing the Fluter SDK, we make it very easy to install and set up the development environment to build mobile, web, and desktop applications with Flutter on Ubuntu. Flutter will become Canonical's default choice for creating mobile and desktop applications in the future."

That’s a pretty big commitment for a framework that, until a few months ago, was made available for Linux desktops through a joint effort between Ubuntu and Google, and Flutter lacks the stability needed on Ubuntu compared to current technologies.

Even so, Canonical clearly sees the potential of Flutter. Canonical also announced last month that they are rewriting the installer with Flutter for future Ubuntu releases. This will enable Canonical to provide a consistent installation experience across the entire Ubuntu product line. Canonical will devote itself to this technology in the future.

Friends who are interested in trying out this technology can download the Flutter SDK from the Snap Store.
