At the Shanghai epidemic prevention and control press conference held on the morning of May 13, Wu Qing, member of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Executive Vice Mayor, said that Shanghai’s current goal is to achieve zero social contact by the middle of this month. At that time, orderly relaxation, limited flow, effective control, and classified management will be implemented. In accordance with the requirements of normalizing epidemic prevention and control, Shanghai will gradually shift from the lockdown areas, control areas, and prevention areas under emergency response status to the classified management of high, medium, and low-risk areas under normalized prevention and control.

2. Can Shanghai be unsealed in June 2022?

It is expected that Shanghai will be able to lift the lockdown in June. Currently, Shanghai's districts are gradually achieving basic zero social contact. As of May 11, eight districts in Shanghai have achieved basic zero social contact. Standards for lifting the control zone (the blockade can be lifted when the following conditions are met at the same time):

3. Two days before the control was lifted, all personnel in the area completed a round of nucleic acid screening, and all results were negative.

In general, achieving social zero is the primary condition for subsequent lifting of the lockdown. For example, Xi'an announced the social zero on January 5, and announced the lifting of the lockdown about three weeks later (January 24). Jilin and Changchun announced the social zero on April 8 and April 13 respectively, and announced the lifting of the lockdown about 2-3 weeks later (April 28). Tianjin announced the social zero on January 21, and announced the lifting of the lockdown about two weeks later (January 30).
