Why does my conjunctivitis recur when winter comes?

Winter is here, the air becomes cold and dry, and if you are not careful your eyes will be affected, tears and soreness will come.

If you feel uncomfortable and want to rub your eyes to relieve it, it will be even worse! You think to yourself, it must be conjunctivitis. Wait, it may not be conjunctivitis. Listen to me, Dongdong Miao, this may be conjunctivitis!

First of all, let me explain that pink eye is not the same as conjunctivitis, it is just one of many types of conjunctivitis.

The main symptoms of conjunctivitis are red eyes, eye pain, increased secretions, foreign body sensation, and burning sensation, which generally do not cause vision changes.

If you accidentally develop chronic conjunctivitis, you should go to the hospital for examination in time and try not to swim in public areas to avoid eye infections. At the same time, you should take certain isolation measures and follow the doctor's advice for treatment.

In this way, conjunctivitis will recover quickly.

Also pay attention to the following precautions:

Try to keep a distance of 30-50cm from the mobile phone. Let your eyes rest for a while after using them for a long time, or do eye exercises, massage your eyes, and look into the distance more often.

For some people, they can’t “self-soothe” themselves to sleep without opening their phones to read before bed.

Although many people know that turning off the lights and playing with mobile phones in bed at night is bad for the eyes, they always say, “I understand the reason, I will do it next time”... Do you know the consequences of doing this?

Playing with mobile phones while lying in bed not only makes us susceptible to myopia and dry eyes, but also makes us more likely to suffer from conjunctivitis.

This is because when we lie on our side or back in bed playing with our phones, blood tends to flow to our eyes, causing the conjunctival blood vessels to become slightly congested. The skin at the corners of the eyes will become flushed and crusted, which can develop into chronic conjunctivitis over time.

In this case, do not rub your eyes with your hands easily, because there are a lot of bacteria on your hands, which can easily infect your eyes and eventually cause other eye diseases.

According to the different conditions of conjunctivitis, we generally divide conjunctivitis into three categories: acute, subacute and chronic.

According to the characteristics of the lesions, it can be divided into: acute follicular conjunctivitis, chronic follicular conjunctivitis, membranous and pseudomembranous conjunctivitis.

Depending on the cause, conjunctivitis can be divided into bacterial, viral and allergic.

Redness of the conjunctiva, a large amount of sticky secretions, adhesion of the upper and lower eyelids in the morning, eye pain and fear of light, these are all symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis, which can be treated with antibacterial eye drops, such as eye drops during the day and eye ointment at night.

If this type of conjunctivitis is treated promptly, it can usually be cured in about one week to half a month if there is no re-infection.

Viral conjunctivitis has symptoms such as itchy eyes, fear of light, tearing, a small amount of thin secretions, and conjunctival congestion. It can be treated with antiviral eye drops. This type of conjunctivitis sometimes coexists with viral colds.

Allergic conjunctivitis is a condition in which there are a large number of follicles on the conjunctiva of the eyelid, with a small amount of white secretions, sometimes in a stringy shape, painless, and conjunctival congestion. It is best to go to the hospital for this type of conjunctivitis and consult a doctor about specific treatment matters.

The treatment of conjunctivitis generally takes 2 to 4 weeks. Even after the symptoms have completely improved, it will take half a month before you can consider wearing contact lenses again.

Wearing contact lenses in the case of bacterial infection will irritate the eyes, cause local blood circulation disorders, and aggravate the symptoms of conjunctivitis. In addition, contact lenses are in direct contact with the eyeballs. If the contact lenses are not cleaned properly, the inflammation will be aggravated.

Dongdongmiao would also like to remind everyone: when conjunctivitis is not in an attack, if you experience symptoms such as red eyes or foreign body sensation after wearing contact lenses, you should remove the contact lenses in time.
