Can blood type determine life span? Who would have thought that the most powerful blood type is…

The discussion about blood type has never stopped. When it comes to the relationship between blood type and health, there are many serious sayings, such as:

"People with blood type O are more likely to attract mosquitoes"

"People with blood type A are the most gentle"

"People with blood type B have better immunity"

......

In recent years, there has been a saying that "people with blood type O live the longest." So what is the truth about the relationship between blood type and life expectancy?

Today, let’s take a detailed look at it!

Blood type is a method of classifying human blood, usually referring to the specific antigen type on the red blood cell membrane.

Blood types are divided into many systems. There are about 30 blood type typing systems recognized by the International Society of Blood Transfusion. For example, there are ABO blood type system, Rh blood type system, Kell blood type system, MNS blood type system, Duffy blood type system...

Among them, the most common and important are the ABO blood type and Rh blood type systems, which are most closely related to clinical practice. Safe blood transfusion depends on blood typing and cross-matching.

The ABO blood type is determined by whether there are specific antigens on the surface of red blood cells: if only antigen A is on the red blood cells it is type A, if only antigen B is on the red blood cells it is type B, if both antigen A and antigen B are present it is type AB, and if neither of these two antigens is present it is type O.

Among the residents in my country, blood types A, B and O each account for about 30%, while type AB accounts for only about 10%.

Blood type is an important piece of information about a person. In addition to playing a role in blood transfusions and paternity testing, it is also one of the important pieces of evidence for police to solve cases. It is also the focus of research for scientists, who hope to discover more secrets of the body through blood research.

Not to mention, with the scientific research, people have actually come up with new speculations about blood types.

In clinical research, medical scientists have discovered that there are certain connections between different blood types and diseases.

1. Coronary heart disease prefers blood type A

In a study involving 898 patients suspected of coronary heart disease who underwent selective coronary angiography, the detection rate of coronary heart disease in patients with type A blood was 57.1%, significantly higher than the 47.3% in the non-type A blood group.

Studies have shown that blood type and blood lipids are genetically related, and type A blood has higher total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) concentrations than non-A blood types, which means that people with type A blood are more likely to suffer from coronary heart disease.

People with blood type O are the least likely to suffer from coronary heart disease. Studies have shown that people with blood type A, B or AB have a 5% to 23% higher risk of coronary heart disease than those with blood type O.

2. AB blood type is more prone to thrombosis

In addition to blood lipids, blood type is also related to the formation of blood clots.

A study in the journal Circulation showed that AB blood type is a major risk factor for thrombosis, accounting for about 20% of the causes of thrombosis!

People with blood type O are once again the "biggest winners": people with blood type O have a 30% lower risk of developing thrombosis than people with other blood types. Among them, people with non-O blood type have a 1.92 times higher risk of developing deep vein thrombosis in the lower limbs and a 1.75 times higher risk of developing pulmonary embolism.

Although the potential mechanism of action between ABO blood type and cancer occurrence is not yet fully understood.

But there are many studies on the relationship between blood type and cancer, which gives medical scientists some reasonable hypotheses:

For example, ABO blood type antigens may affect systemic inflammatory responses, which is related to cancer; the structure of some tumor antigens is similar to that of related antigens in blood types, which may allow tumor antigens to escape recognition and attack by immune cells in the body; and disorders in the enzymatic activity of ABO glycosyltransferases may promote the occurrence of malignant tumors.

Therefore, there are some unexplainable mysteries between ABO blood type and cancer.

A study covering the past 60 years in 30 countries showed that the overall cancer risk of people with blood type A is 1.12 times that of people with non-A blood type, which means that people with blood type A have a 12% higher risk of cancer than others.

Of course, this is not true for all cancers. People with type A blood have a lower risk of breast cancer than people with other blood types.

On the contrary, blood type O is much better in terms of overall cancer risk, and its cancer risk is 16% lower than that of non-O blood types.

In addition, each blood type has its own "difficulties", such as:

People with blood type A are more likely to develop stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, gallbladder cancer, etc.

People with blood type B are more likely to suffer from oral cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, etc.

People with AB blood type are more likely to suffer from liver cancer, ovarian cancer, stomach cancer, etc.

People with blood type O are more likely to suffer from breast cancer, bladder cancer, etc.

In addition to cardiovascular disease and cancer, blood type is also closely related to some other diseases.

According to research, most people suffering from cirrhosis, diabetes, multiple neuritis and acute myelitis have blood type A.

The incidence of tuberculosis among people with blood type B is higher than that among people with other blood types, and they are very "prone" to diabetes.

Among all blood types, people with AB blood type have the highest incidence of allergic asthma, and their chance of suffering from schizophrenia is more than three times higher than that of other blood types.

People with blood type O have a higher rate of Helicobacter pylori positivity (Helicobacter pylori infection is closely related to chronic gastritis and gastroduodenal ulcers).

However, in general, based on most relevant studies, the incidence of cardiovascular disease, cancer and other diseases in type O blood is significantly lower than that of other blood types.

Does that mean that people with type O blood live longer than people with other blood types? (After all, they have more advantages in dealing with certain diseases)

The answer actually needs further research. Although blood type is indeed related to many diseases, it is not the fundamental reason for longevity.

Because there are many factors that affect the occurrence of diseases, there are even more factors that affect life expectancy, such as living environment, eating habits, and genetic genes, etc.

Based on current research conclusions, there is no definite scientific basis to determine which blood type, type A, type B, type AB, or type O, is longer-lived.

Therefore, instead of worrying about the relationship between blood type and life span, it is better to change your lifestyle. Only by developing good eating habits, sleeping habits and exercise habits can you pursue health and longevity. Blood type can only be a reference for the diagnosis of certain diseases, but it cannot protect your health!
