After the Spring Festival, check whether your blood pressure, blood sugar, blood lipids, weight and heart rate are at ideal levels?

The New Year for office workers is over, and it’s time to go back to work.

The retired people’s New Year is almost over, and it’s time to return to their normal lives.

During the Chinese New Year, most people slow down their pace of life, eat "better", and move "less". The direct consequence is that we are overweight, have high blood pressure, abnormal blood sugar, and abnormal blood lipids and heart rate.

Abnormalities in these most basic indicators are the most common factors leading to cardiovascular diseases. For example, increased blood pressure, increased blood sugar, increased blood lipids, overweight, abnormal heart rate, etc. will increase the risk of angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, heart failure and other cardiovascular diseases.

So we must first check whether these indicators of ours are normal.
So how do you simply determine whether your blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, heart rate, and blood lipids are within the normal range?

1. Is blood pressure normal?

Most people know that blood pressure is normal within 140/90 mmHg, that is, if the high pressure does not exceed 140 mmHg and the low pressure does not exceed 90 mmHg, then it is not high blood pressure.

This knowledge point is correct, but not rigorous. It can only be said that if the blood pressure is not ≥140/90mmHg, it is necessary to consider diagnosing hypertension. But it does not mean that blood pressure <140/90mmHg is normal blood pressure.

At present, the ideal blood pressure for adults in my country is less than 120/80 mmHg, that is, the highest high pressure is less than 120 mmHg, and the lowest pressure is preferably less than 80 mmHg. The lower limit is no higher than 90/60 mmHg, which is considered normal.

So what does blood pressure between 120-140/80-90mmHg belong to? Blood pressure in this range is considered high normal. If you still don’t pay attention to blood pressure in this range, actively control your weight, exercise, and control your diet, then in a short time, or a few months, or a few years, it will develop into true hypertension ≥140/90mmHg.

When you have time, please measure your blood pressure to see if it is at the ideal level!

2. Is blood sugar normal?

Friends with diabetes should monitor their blood sugar during the Chinese New Year. Friends with diabetes also know what the blood sugar standard is.

The current blood sugar standards in my country are: fasting blood sugar reference value 3.9-6.4mmol/L, postprandial blood sugar reference value 4.6-7.8mmol/L, random blood sugar <11.1mmol/L, and glycosylated hemoglobin reference value 4-6%.

Regardless of whether you have diabetes or not, the above range is the ideal blood sugar level.

Even if we don't have diabetes, if we have high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, obesity, family history of diabetes, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, etc., we recommend that you test your blood sugar after the Chinese New Year. On the one hand, these people are more likely to develop diabetes, and on the other hand, eating more and moving less during the Chinese New Year can easily lead to diabetes.

If fasting blood sugar exceeds 7mmol/L, diabetes should be diagnosed; if random blood sugar exceeds 11.1mmol/L, diabetes should be diagnosed; if glycated hemoglobin exceeds 6.5%, diabetes should be diagnosed.

After the Chinese New Year, test your blood sugar to see if it is normal.

3. Is your weight normal?

Weight cannot be simply judged by weighing, because we are all different in height, so a relatively simple method is to weigh yourself and then calculate a BMI based on weight and height.
BMI = weight ÷ height squared. (Weight in kilograms; height in meters.)

BMI is between 18.5-24, which means you are neither fat nor thin. Keep in good shape!

BMI < 18.5 means you are too thin, and BMI > 24 means you are too fat. It is estimated that most people gain weight after the Chinese New Year, so calculate your BMI as soon as possible to see if you are overweight or obese.
If you are overweight or obese, start working on your weight management.

4. Is the heart rate normal?

The heart rate we generally refer to is the resting heart rate, which is the number of times our heart beats per minute when we are quiet.

The heart rate range written in the book is 60-100 beats/minute, but in reality, we can only use this range as a basic reference.

Our requirements for heart rate cannot rely solely on 60-100 beats/minute.

If there is no disease, the heart rate of a healthy person is generally recommended to be 50-90 beats/minute. Of course, it must vary from person to person, because everyone's basic heart rate is different, that is, some people have a fast heart rate, and some people have a relatively slow heart rate. Athletes with good physical fitness may have a relatively slow heart rate at ordinary times. But in general, it should not be lower than 50 beats/minute and should not exceed 90 beats/minute.

If you have high blood pressure, it is recommended that your heart rate be controlled at around 70 beats per minute. If your heart rate is over 80 beats per minute, it is recommended that you seek medical attention to lower your heart rate.

If you have coronary heart disease, especially angina pectoris or myocardial infarction, it is recommended that your heart rate be controlled at around 60 beats/minute, with 55-65 beats/minute being ideal.

If you have heart failure, it is recommended that your heart rate be controlled at around 60 beats/minute, with 55-65 beats/minute being ideal.

Therefore, the ideal heart rate is different for different people, and you can refer to it for reference.

5. Is blood lipid normal?

If the four indicators of blood pressure, blood sugar, heart rate and weight can be measured and compared at home, then the blood lipid indicator can only be tested by blood drawing in the hospital.

Because there is currently no machine for home blood lipid testing.

High-density lipoprotein cholesterol in blood lipids is a good blood lipid, so there is no need to pay too much attention to it. The cholesterol series mainly looks at low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, so we mainly focus on triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

The reference value for triglycerides is 0.45-1.7mmol/L. When it is >2.1mmol/L, hyperlipidemia (hypertriglyceridemia) is diagnosed.

If triglycerides are ≥5.6mmol/L, it is a high-risk value, which can easily induce acute pancreatitis. Therefore, if triglycerides are ≥5.6mmol/L, drug intervention must be taken as soon as possible, and overeating and drinking should be avoided to avoid inducing fatal acute pancreatitis.

There are three different levels of LDL cholesterol:

General population (no cardiovascular or cerebrovascular disease, no other high-risk factors) <3.4mmol/L,

High-risk groups (those with hypertension, diabetes, obesity, family history of cardiovascular disease, etc.) <2.6mmol/L;

Extremely high-risk groups (coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, heart stents, heart bypass, cerebral infarction, severe carotid artery plaques, severe peripheral vascular stenosis, etc.) <1.8mmol/L.

The New Year is over, but our body is not prepared for the New Year. The New Year only lasts a few days, but our body lasts 365 days. If we take good care of our bodies, we will be able to have a good New Year next year and every year!
