These "foreign specialties" have become domestic products

Recently, Yunnan Plus avocados were put on the shelves. Compared with imported avocados, the avocados produced in Menglian, Pu'er, Yunnan are larger in size, with a single fruit weighing more than 200 grams. It only takes 5 days for Menglian avocados to be picked and put into supermarkets. Freshness and a longer fruit-hanging period have become the advantages of domestic avocados.

Localization is a good thing. This is the geographical advantage. Coffee and cherries are all localized, and the same is true for milk, which has entered thousands of households today.

In fact, the reason why some foreign specialties can be localized can be traced back to my country’s geographical location. China’s latitude is 53°34′ north latitude to 3°51′ north latitude, covering the tropical and temperate zones, and this area is also the most densely populated area in the world.

If we fold the earth in half, then basically most of the world's human beings are within this range. Because of this, basically anything that can be grown abroad, my country can probably try it. Today, let's talk to you about the localization of foreign specialties!

01. Avocado

Avocado, also known as alligator pear, is a famous tropical fruit. The world's avocado varieties are usually divided into three major groups: Mexican, Guatemalan and West Indian.

On the map, Mexico and Guatemala are still in the northern hemisphere. For example, when I saw the Tropic of Cancer, I immediately thought of the Tropic of Cancer Sign Park in Mojiang, Yunnan, which is one of the largest and most fully-functional Tropic of Cancer Sign Parks in the world.

It can be imagined that this avocado-growing area must have a very corresponding area in China, and Yunnan is such a place.

If the geography is suitable, then for crops, it’s just a matter of cultivation.

In fact, avocados are grown not only in Yunnan, but also in many places in my country. A typical example is Taiwan, which introduced avocados as early as 1918 and is now one of the important avocado producing areas.

Avocados can be produced in all areas of my country with corresponding latitudes, and are already being planted, such as Guangdong Province, Hainan Province, Fujian Province, and even Sichuan Province.

02. Cherry - European sweet cherry

Every winter, cherries from Chile start to be sold at a very high price. It should be noted here that cherries and cherries are not the same thing.

The dark red imported cherries eaten in winter are scientifically known as European sweet cherries (Cerasus avium).

The small red ones we eat in summer are scientifically called Chinese cherry (Cerasus pseudocerasus).

The two belong to the same genus, but are different species. Imported cherries are native to Europe and western Asia; Chinese cherries, which are native to China, have been cultivated in my country for a long time and have many varieties.

So, the two are really not the same thing, and the taste is slightly different. But looking at the map, Chile, a long and straight country, is not completely unique. The 18th and 57th degrees south latitudes are almost the same as the northern latitudes of my country.

In this case, why can't we plant it?

Look, Northeast my country, North China and other places in China have also introduced European sweet cherry varieties. For example, the cherries in Yantai and other places are actually the same kind as imported cherries.

In fact, there are many kinds of cherries. In addition to the common European sweet cherries and Chinese cherries, there are also European sour cherries (Cerasus vulgaris Mill.) and hairy cherries (Cerasus tomentosa (Thunb.) Wall.)

As for why it is so expensive? Scarcity makes things more expensive. After all, this thing is a summer product, and it is winter in my country now. It is naturally expensive to import it from Chile and other places in the southern hemisphere where it is summer.

03. Coffee

Coffee itself originated in Ethiopia, Africa, and previously the mainstream coffee-growing countries in the world were basically abroad, such as South America and Africa.

The suitable latitude for growing coffee beans is between 28° north latitude and 38° south latitude, at an altitude of 1000 to 2000 m, which is what people call the coffee belt or bean belt.

This is a coincidence. my country also happens to have coffee in this area. In this area, there are Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Hainan and Taiwan in my country. Therefore, these places can all become coffee growing areas.

The main areas for growing coffee in my country are Yunnan, Sichuan and Hainan.

In fact, in theory, coffee can be grown in Guangxi, Guangdong mountainous areas and Taiwan at the same latitude, so this may be a new idea.

For example, Guangxi is also growing coffee now. After all, Guangxi is adjacent to Vietnam, and Vietnam produces the famous G7, so it should be feasible for Guangxi as well.

04. Cow-milk

Dairy cows are not native to China. The main cattle in China are yellow cattle and water buffalo. Dairy cows are imported.

The earliest dairy cow breed in China was introduced from abroad about 100 years ago, namely Holstein, which is the familiar black and white dairy cow (about 80% of dairy cows in my country are Holstein). Others such as Xinjiang brown cattle are also of foreign origin (crossbreeding of Kazakhstan, Swiss, etc.).

Dairy cows are mainly suitable for temperate oceanic climate, so the difficulty of raising dairy cows in my country has increased.

But it doesn’t matter. At least it’s geographically suitable, so just raise it.

In recent years, dairy farming in my country has gradually taken shape.

At present, my country is basically the fourth largest milk producing country in the world.

There are many others, such as the alpacas that we often see today, which are native to America and can also be found in China today.

Ostriches, native to Africa, have been widely raised

There is also Japan's Sunshine Rose, whose price has now been driven down by China.

It has to be said that the localization of foreign specialties is indeed a good thing that benefits the country and the people, so localization is also a trend!
