Why do WP users choose the 1% life? There is a reason

Not long ago, Alipay Wallet announced that it had successfully adapted to Apple Watch, which made WP users envious and jealous. A large number of users took out their anger on Alipay's inaction on the WP platform and called Alipay a "payment bitch". Subsequently, Alipay Wallet sent a Weibo post to hint to WP users, "Why do you choose a 1% life?" Once this was said, the incident escalated again.

After consulting with many engineers who used to work on the WP platform, ROM Base decided to talk to you about WP, Microsoft, and Alipay. The following is just one person's opinion. Please like if you support it, and feel free to criticize if you oppose it.

Why are WP users willing to be that 1%?

In the CCTV 315 Gala that just ended, the host randomly counted the mobile phone information of the audience connected to the WiFi on site. There were 319 people using the Android system, 207 people using the iOS system, and only 6 people using the WP system.

This data shows that the WP system only has a market share of 0.8% in China, and the 1% mentioned by Alipay is not groundless. It is worth noting that among the 528 mobile phones, the software installed in Android and iOS phones was detected on the spot, but only the WP phone did not show any display. This shows that the security of the WP system is still worthy of recognition.

Although the WP system's ecosystem is extremely scarce and the system functions are imperfect, most users who choose WP8 phones believe that the WP8 interface style is very unique and because the WP system is closed, it is much more secure than iOS and Android.

There is no absolute good or bad in mobile operating systems. The best one is the one that suits you. Perhaps WP users do not mind what others think of the WP system. They choose WP because of its many advantages such as smoothness and security.

Why is the WP version of Alipay unwilling to update?

Many WP users think that the reason why Alipay updates slowly is that the number of WP users is too small, only 1%. In fact, this is just a superficial reason. Even if it is only 1%, the total number of users is still very large. Friends who often pay attention to technology news should know that there are many WP users in cnbeta and IT Home, and this group should not be underestimated.

To be fair, Alipay's failure to update the WP client is not entirely Alipay's fault, but Microsoft should bear the main responsibility. From the user's perspective, WP users' complaints are understandable, but this also reflects the increasing decline of the Windows Phone platform.

Why should Microsoft bear the main responsibility? In October 2010, Microsoft released WP7, which is not compatible with WM. In June 2012, Microsoft launched WP8, which is not compatible with WP7. This made WP users extremely dissatisfied and WP partners very angry. More importantly, this series of decisions by Microsoft made its teammate Nokia spit out blood and completely die. And Microsoft is still dreaming of charging $25 for each mobile phone.

Of course, Alipay is not without fault. Not only Alipay, but other Alibaba products, including Taobao, Tmall, Wangxin, etc., do not pay enough attention to the WP platform. In addition, because the WP system is too closed and has compatibility issues, IE10/11 cannot even open the Taobao touch screen version, which makes the already software-starved WP users even worse. In fact, it is very simple to solve this problem. Taobao only needs to make a slight modification so that WP users can use it. But why it does not do this, you can think about it yourself.

Alibaba is not an Internet company. It is not product- and user-centric. It does not have the geeky attributes of Google or the idealist thinking of Luo Yonghao. It is more like a traditional financial enterprise, a profit-oriented company, so it is impossible to do a loss-making business. How can it support its employees if it does not make money?

Joe Kelly of Huawei once said that no manufacturer can make money from WP devices now. In this context, software manufacturers want to flee, WP developers want to flee, and users want to flee. Therefore, the birth of "payment bitch" can be said to be Microsoft's own fault.

Where will WP phone users go?

In such an environment, no matter how much WP users complain, vent their anger, or attack Alipay, it will be useless. And Alibaba is not the only one not to develop the WP platform. The three giants BAT don't like WP very much, and so does 360.

Currently, WP users have two options. One is to abandon the WP platform and switch to Android/iOS, which is also a helpless move. Because of operating habits, many WP users may not be used to iPhone, so it is recommended that WP users switch to Android. If you miss the WP system, then install a WP8 desktop. The interface style of the WP desktop is almost exactly the same as the WP8 system, and you can also change the theme.

If you don't want to let go, then there is only one way left, which is to stick to the WP platform, constantly give Microsoft suggestions to improve the WP system, and ask Microsoft to delegate power to WP and reduce the difficulty of developing WP applications. If you don't open enough API interfaces, the developer will face great resistance in software development. This is also the reason why WP is not friendly to third-party input methods and there are no non-IE-based browsers available.

A closed system is not necessarily a bad thing. In terms of security, WP's closed system has advantages over open systems, but if it is too closed, the advantage will become a disadvantage. Although Apple is closed, it has established a complete system ecosystem, while WP's closed system has largely added to the problems of its already lack of applications.

But then again, Microsoft is also teased as "super hard" because it is hard for it to listen to user suggestions. Many Chinese WP users have given Microsoft many suggestions and opinions, but the response they got was to wait for news, and then nothing happened. For those who can't afford to wait, please refer to the previous point.

In conclusion:

Although there were only 6 WP users at the 315 event, this also shows that the WP system has many supporters in today's harsh environment. As long as Microsoft can delegate power, more and more people will join the WP camp.

No one has the right to judge other people's lives, because their lives are something you have never experienced. As long as WP users are willing to live that 1% of life, no one can make arbitrary accusations or comments, and the same should be true for Alipay.
