Twenty-one years later, our original intention has not changed! In 2022, who else will move us? The Chinese people’s spiritual epic of the year! Moved by China A touching story. Light up our way forward! On July 1, 1997, Hong Kong's sovereignty returned to the motherland. In that year, Professor Chen Qingquan of the University of Hong Kong became the first scholar in Hong Kong to be elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. As a returned overseas Chinese, his path of studying, researching and doing academic research has always been inseparable from his motherland. Chen Qingquan: I grew up in a third-generation overseas Chinese family. When I was in Indonesia, overseas Chinese were not protected. Only when the motherland is strong can we stand up. The turbulent times he experienced in his childhood made Chen Qingquan deeply realize the importance of a strong country to the fate of an individual. In 1953, Chen Qingquan, who was only 16 years old, returned to the embrace of his motherland and was admitted to the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Beijing Institute of Mining and Technology. Chen Qingquan secretly made up his mind to contribute to the industrialization progress of his motherland. In the 1960s, Chen Qingquan designed and developed a low-frequency generator based on simple data, making the first attempt at automation in China's coal industry. After that, he spent another 6 years developing China's early linear motor. At that time, in order to take care of his elderly parents, Chen Qingquan decided to go to Hong Kong. In 1982, Chen Qingquan graduated with a doctorate and taught at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the University of Hong Kong. Through extensive study and research, Chen Qingquan predicted the broad development prospects of electric vehicles. He hoped to help the motherland seize this development opportunity. For this reason, he decided to take electric vehicles as his research direction. In the 1990s, Chen Qingquan designed the electric car HKU2001, which carried a technological concept that transcended the times and attracted global attention as soon as it was unveiled. Chen Qingquan: It should have been the most typical and advanced at that time. Chen Qingquan creatively integrated automobile, motor, control and other technologies to form a new discipline. His professional works have become classic textbooks for colleges and universities, laying a theoretical foundation for the modern electric vehicle discipline. As the founder of the World Electric Vehicle Association, Chen Qingquan has won many international scientific and technological achievement awards, but in his heart, he values the industrialization process of electric vehicles in his country more. For this reason, he has made suggestions and helped the national strategy and contributed to the development of the industry. Chen Qingquan: When I was an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering 20 years ago, I said this: China would become the kingdom of electric vehicles, and now it has become a reality. In June 2017, Chen Qingquan, together with 23 other academicians from Hong Kong, wrote a letter to President Xi Jinping, expressing the urgent desire of Hong Kong science and technology workers to serve the motherland and their great enthusiasm for promoting scientific and technological innovation. They also hoped that the country could help solve some problems that affect the development of scientific research. A reply was received in less than a week, and the problems mentioned in the letter were quickly solved, which excited the Hong Kong science and technology workers. Chen Qingquan: President Xi's instructions were very specific. His letter was a shot in the arm. I have always remembered it deeply in my mind, so I must remember President Xi's instructions. Hong Kong must work together with Shenzhen and the mainland to integrate into the country's great construction. In recent years, the country has successively introduced policies and measures to support the development of scientific research in Hong Kong. From 2018 to 2021, a total of 17 projects led or undertaken by Hong Kong universities were approved, with a total funding of 138 million yuan. These financial and policy supports have given Chen Qingquan great confidence. With his motherland in mind and the world in his eyes, Chen Qingquan is still contributing to the development of science and technology in China. After 86 years of life, he still remains true to his original aspiration. Award Speech for "Moving China" Cars changed the world, and you have to change cars. Made in China, today its tracks are all over the world, You are the pioneer, you are the navigator. In the new energy track, we have been racing for more than 40 years. now, You and the motherland are overtaking. ——Chen Qingquan, the Person Who Moved China 2022 |
