Chinese people are living longer

Life expectancy may increase to 81.3 years

On March 30, Zhou Maigeng, deputy director of the Chronic Disease Center of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and an expert in epidemiology and health statistics, and others published a study in The Lancet Public Health, a subsidiary of The Lancet, showing that by 2035, the life expectancy of Chinese people may increase to 81.3 years, achieving the country's goal of increasing life expectancy.

1. From the perspective of cities: These cities have the longest life expectancy

From the perspective of cities, women in Beijing will have the highest life expectancy in 2035, with an 81% probability of reaching 90 years old, followed by Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Jiangsu.

In addition, Shanghai men are expected to have the highest life expectancy at birth, with a 98% probability of exceeding 80 years in 2035 and a 77% probability of exceeding 83 years. The probability of men in Beijing, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangsu and Fujian exceeding 80 years in life expectancy is more than 50%.

2. From the perspective of gender: women live 7 years longer than men

The study found that China's life expectancy at birth will further increase, rising steadily from 77.7 years in 2019. It is expected that by 2030, life expectancy will reach 79 years, and by 2035, life expectancy will reach 81.3 years, with an average of 85.1 years for women and 78.1 years for men.

3. From the perspective of growth: life expectancy in these provinces has increased the most

The provinces with the largest increase in female life expectancy are Guangdong, Beijing, Zhejiang and Fujian, with a probability of at least 53% that the increase will exceed 5 years. Tibet, Fujian, Guangdong and Jilin are expected to see the largest increase in male life expectancy, with at least 53% probability of increasing by more than 4 years.

Keep these 5 points in mind

Bringing you one step closer to longevity!

With the improvement of living conditions and medical conditions, the overall population is living longer and life expectancy is increasing. However, many people in our lives still suffer from major diseases at an early age, or even die early. How can you get closer to longevity? Remember these 5 points!

1. Healthy Diet: Eat More God-Made Products and Less Man-Made Products

Speaking of healthy eating, many years ago a health expert once proposed a very typical saying: "Eat more God-made food and less man-made food." It means "eat more natural food and less human-processed food."

There is actually a more accurate name for eating less "artificial" - "ultra-processed food". Although this thing sounds unfamiliar, you may actually eat it every day. Look at the supermarket shelves, they are almost all filled with them!

Ultra-processed food refers to food that is industrially produced and has at least 5 additives added , usually sugar, stabilizers, preservatives, pigments, etc. They are usually high-sugar, high-fat, and high-calorie foods. Typical examples include: various sugary drinks, bread and cakes, potato chips, candies, hamburgers, etc.

Eating "ultra-processed foods" frequently will change your DNA chromosomes and make you age faster!

In September 2020, at the European and International Conference on Obesity, a study was published showing that people who consume a lot of "ultra-processed foods" are more likely to exhibit chromosomal changes associated with aging.

Researchers pointed out that compared with people who rarely eat ultra-processed foods, people who eat three or more servings a day will have their DNA telomere length shortened by half. Telomeres are small segments of DNA-protein complexes at the ends of linear chromosomes in eukaryotic cells. Their function is to maintain the integrity of chromosomes and control the cell division cycle. Telomere shortening is known to be a sign of biological aging at the cellular level. A large number of studies have shown that unhealthy diet is an important factor in accelerating cell aging .

2. Increase exercise: exercise is the best "longevity medicine"

Many people in life have a feeling that "people who love sports don't look old". That's right, when many people enter old age, the most obvious change is that their legs and feet become unsteady and weak. Compared with the motor organs of the upper limbs, the legs and feet age much earlier.

Professor Chang Cuiqing, director of the Nutrition and Biochemistry Laboratory of Peking University Third Hospital, proposed at the Tsinghua University High-end Elderly Care Forum in 2017 that regular exercise can help the elderly maintain leg muscle strength, delay muscle and bone loss, improve cardiopulmonary and vascular function, maintain a healthy weight, reduce the risk of falling, and improve the quality of life. At the same time, it can regulate psychological balance, relieve stress, reduce loneliness, make the body more flexible, and make the mind more agile. It can also reduce the risk of all-cause mortality by 35%. So far, no drug can reduce your risk of all-cause mortality by 35%.

Recommendation: Most elderly people have weak joints, so it is best to choose gentle activities such as walking, jogging, swimming, etc., and do them within your capacity.

3. Work and rest rules: Staying up late when you are young will make you unable to sleep when you are old

When you are alive, you should eat when you should eat, sleep when you should sleep, and play when you should play. Only in this way can you eat well, sleep soundly, play happily, and be more energetic as you live. If a person has a chaotic work and rest schedule, irregular meals, often stays up late, goes to bed late and gets up late, his mental state will only become more and more sluggish, and his life will be a mess.

In particular, many people cannot sleep or suffer from insomnia when they are older, which may actually be caused by young people staying up late. Academician Lu Lin, dean of Peking University Sixth Hospital, said in an interview with Health Times in 2018 that sleep rhythm is easy to adjust when you are young. For example, "many young people work overtime until very late at night for a period of time, go to bed at two or three o'clock, and get up at nine or ten in the morning. After this period of time, they don't have to work overtime and can sleep normally." But with age, sleep rhythm is becoming more and more difficult to adjust. "Clinically, it is found that journalists, programmers, teachers, etc., because of overtime work when they are young, they will have sleep problems when they are middle-aged and old, at the age of 35 to 40."

Suggestion: When you are young, you should maintain good work and rest and sleeping habits, and make sure to fall asleep before 11pm every day.

4. Good mood: If you are in a bad mood, no matter how much you do to maintain your health, it will be in vain.

If you observe and study carefully, you will find that most of the long-lived elderly are open-minded, optimistic and don't care about things. It is rare to find a long-lived elderly who is impatient, loses his temper and cares about everything.

If you want to live a long life, it is very important to maintain a happy mood and keep your emotions stable. We must understand that once you get angry, you can't take it back, and it will only hurt others and yourself, and it is not good for anyone. Therefore, we must learn to control our temper and it is best not to get angry.

Real-life research has also confirmed this. A 2019 study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States followed up more than 70,000 volunteers for up to 30 years and found that the average life expectancy of the most optimistic men was extended by 11%, and that of women by 15%. Optimistic people are more likely to live to 85 years and above.

5. Regular physical examinations: Many diseases can be cured if detected early.

In recent years, we have heard that many people were diagnosed with advanced cancer during physical examinations. In fact, many diseases, including cancer, can be cured if they are detected in the early stages. Even for incurable diseases, it can prolong life and of course promote the slow progression of the disease.

Regular physical examinations are very important for longevity. Only with regular physical examinations can we find out the minor problems in our body, and timely treatment will prevent serious illness. After all, for most people, since many diseases cannot be discovered in the earliest stage, only physical examinations can make us clear about the condition of our body. If we can feel that the body is unwell, it is often the case that the disease has developed to the middle and late stages. In addition, physical examinations can also make our physical condition clearer and change our unhealthy living habits in time.
