Unexpectedly popular! iOS 15 update rate: nearly 60% of devices have installed it 80 days after release

After the official version of iOS 15 was launched, its update rate lags behind iOS 14. The main reason is that there are too many minor problems in the system.

According to data from the third-party website Mixpanel, within 80 days of iOS 15's official release to the public in June 2021, its adoption rate among all iOS devices is currently close to 60% (after all, it is a closed system).

As of Thursday, third-party data analysis company Mixpanel said that about 58% of iOS devices are running iOS 15, while about 36% are running iOS 14. Mixpanel previously said that the adoption rate of iOS 15 is slower than when iOS 14 was released last fall.

Apple has previously released data on iOS, but has not yet released data for iOS 15. The last publicly reported data from Apple showed that as of June 3, 2021, 85% of devices were running iOS 14. All devices compatible with iOS 14 will remain compatible after updating to iOS 15. However, customers using iOS 14 can still continue to receive critical security updates without updating to the latest major iOS version.

iOS 15 is still a relatively mild update compared to iOS 14, focusing on giving users more control over their notifications and updates to stock iOS apps like Safari. The rollout of iOS 15 has been far from imperfect, with users already reporting several bugs that have mostly been patched in subsequent iOS updates.
