After eating this kind of dried bamboo shoots for a week, the woman rolled on the ground in pain! The doctor was shocked when he saw the intestines...

Dried bamboo shoots are a favorite snack for many people. They are very popular because of their natural property of seemingly “not making you fat”.

Although dried bamboo shoots are delicious, you should not eat too much of them. Recently, someone was hospitalized because of them!

“No matter how delicious the dried bamboo shoots are, I will never dare to eat them again.” Recently, Ms. Hu (pseudonym) was sent to the emergency department of the hospital because of severe abdominal pain. After a diagnosis, she found out that the culprit was her favorite snack - dried bamboo shoots.

After eating dried bamboo shoots for a week , I rolled on the ground with abdominal pain

Recently, Sister Hu bought a big bag of dried bamboo shoots. She would eat them every day whenever she had time. She finished the whole bag in a week.

That morning, Sister Hu suddenly felt a stomachache. She didn't take it seriously at first, but the pain became more and more severe and she even vomited.

After enduring the pain for a whole day, she started to have a fever and rolled on the ground with stomach pain. She could no longer bear it and was sent to the emergency department of the First Municipal Hospital.
Yin Guang, deputy chief physician of the gastrointestinal and anorectal surgery department of Hangzhou First People's Hospital, arranged an abdominal CT scan for Ms. Hu, and the results showed that there was obstruction in the small intestine and the intestinal wall had thickened and edematous.

The intestines were extremely dilated , and the doctor was shocked when he saw the intestines

Afterwards, Ms. Hu was transferred to the gastrointestinal and anorectal surgery ward. According to the conservative treatment method, the treatment team gave Ms. Hu antispasmodics, but there was no improvement.

Yin Guang, who has many years of clinical experience, highly suspected that Sister Hu might have suffered from strangulated intestinal obstruction. In this case, surgery must be performed as soon as possible, otherwise if it takes too long, the intestines may be necrotic due to ischemia.

The preparation for an emergency operation was completed in the shortest possible time, and Sister Hu was pushed into the operating room. Laparoscopically probing the small intestine, Yin Guang discovered that the small intestine had been blocked by an obstruction and bulged, and the intestine had been extremely dilated.

Afterwards, the surgical team made an incision in Ms. Hu's small intestine and removed a piece of blockage about 8 cm long. The area around the blocked intestinal wall was already filled with congestion, showing a state of ischemia.

Therefore, Yin Guang could only remove about 25cm of the small intestine to prevent intestinal fistula after the operation. One and a half hours later, the operation was successful. After cleaning the blockage after the operation, a closer look revealed that it was actually a pile of dried bamboo shoots that blocked Sister Hu's small intestine.

After questioning, Ms. Hu said that she liked eating dried bamboo shoots and had eaten them for a week.

Don’t eat foods that are difficult to digest in a short period of time.

"Ms. Hu's situation is not an isolated one," Yin Guang said. There are many cases where patients have to go to the operating table due to intestinal obstruction caused by improper eating.

Previously, Yin Guang also met a patient who ate a large amount of fresh Dendrobium officinale, and the indigestible stems were directly "bound" into a ball in the patient's intestines. In the end, the only way to remove the obstruction was through surgery. These patients have the same characteristic, that is, they ate a large amount in a short period of time.

Dried bamboo shoots and Dendrobium candidum are all crude fiber foods, so they must be eaten in moderation. Crude fiber that cannot be chewed will cause damage to the gastrointestinal tract. They can easily damage the lining of the stomach and esophagus, induce ulcers, and even cause digestive tract perforation. If they are not digested for a long time, they can also induce intestinal obstruction.

So does that mean we can’t eat bamboo shoots? Yin Guang said we can, but we have to eat them the right way.

1. Try to eat tender food, and spit out the old fibers in time.

2. When eating dried bamboo shoots, remember to chew slowly and thoroughly, and do not eat large amounts continuously.

3. People with poor gastrointestinal function should try not to eat it.

It is important to remind you that if you experience abdominal pain that is difficult to relieve, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible. If intestinal obstruction is not treated in time, it will cause intestinal necrosis.
