A few days ago, it was reported that Sony's TV business might be acquired by the local brand Hisense. Due to the huge impact of the incident, Hisense Electric's stock price once reached the daily limit. However, after multiple confirmations, Hisense recently specifically refuted the rumor and said that it was not true. The news comes from the fact that Sony's TV business has been losing money for years, and its CEO Kazuo Hirai has repeatedly stated that it will adjust the TV business. At first glance, Sony's TV business is on the decline and is not as good as before. With the precedent of Haier's acquisition of Sanyo, Hisense, which is also a TV giant, seems to have the possibility of taking over Sony's TV business. However, the above speculation was denied by Hisense. First of all, Sony China responded that the company would not withdraw from the TV market, but the Sony Group would separate its business and form a situation of self-financing and independent operation. In other words, Sony TV will be an independent subsidiary, not the previous Sony Group image. On the other hand, regarding the rumored acquirer Hisense, if you want to swallow up your opponent, you usually need not only sales performance, but also strong financial and material resources. In the first three quarters of 2014, Hisense's TV revenue was about 21 billion yuan, while Sony's TV revenue was as high as 36 billion yuan, a huge gap. It is very difficult for Hisense to swallow up Sony TV. This is different from TCL's acquisition of Thomson TV. TCL originally intended to acquire Thomson's technology and brand, especially Thomson's influence in the European market. If TCL succeeds in the acquisition, it can open the door to the European and American markets. Hisense's influence in foreign markets is still very limited. In the absence of financial resources, Hisense will not take the risk of attacking Sony. On the other hand, although Sony's TV sales are not as good as before, Sony's TV is almost the only brand that can compete with South Korea's Samsung in the high-end market, especially in advanced technologies such as OLED. Sony's influence is unquestionable. Hisense's overall strength is not the best among local home appliance brands. It is at the same level as Gree, Midea and TCL. In addition, the only company with a scale of 200 billion yuan is Haier. TCL and Haier have made certain achievements in the field of TV, especially TCL's competitive threat is relatively greater. But in comparison, Haier Group's overall strength is much stronger than Hisense. If it wants to acquire Sony TV, Haier is the best choice at least in terms of financial resources, while Hisense's financial resources are slightly inferior. From another perspective, Haier's acquisition of Sanyo's home appliance business can be said to be quite successful, but this does not mean that all cross-border acquisitions between peers will be successful. Just like Lenovo did not get much technology after buying Motorola, the $2.9 billion is not much for Lenovo, but it is not very meaningful. Similarly, although Hisense has become the first in the domestic TV field, it is still a small witch compared to Sony TV. Even if there is an idea of acquisition, it is not possible to act now.
