How to assemble a smart TV

The 2014 China Family Development Report pointed out that the number of Chinese families reached 430 million, ranking first in the world, and the size of families is getting smaller and smaller, with an average family size of 3.02 people. How do these 430 million families watch TV?

By the end of 2014, my country had 180.8 million cable digital TV users, 33.4 million IPTV users, 20 million LiveStar users, 80 million unregistered LiveStar users, 20 million all-in-one smart TV users, and 15 million smart boxes. Together, they total 349.2 million households, close to the total number of households in China, accounting for 81%. The rest of the households may use open-circuit reception or have no TV. (Data from the Internet, not entirely accurate, for reference only.)   The above picture covers most TV users. Except for smart TV all-in-ones, other methods require users to connect the TV to a set-top box. The set-top box is the "host" for obtaining content, and the TV is just a display. Since almost all users only use the TV as a display, why does the TV need so many functions? Why can't it be a pure display? Why can't all unnecessary functions be reduced? Smart users have begun to create. They connect PC desktops to TVs to watch videos and play games; XBox has also added video viewing functions to game consoles. This once again proves that the big screen will never be outdated. The key is to see what kind of content is provided for it.   (Photo: Connecting a PC to a TV to play a game with a controller) In the future, "split TV/DIY TV" may be a good idea. The TV only needs to have a large display function, and the rest of the functions are removed. Users can match them by themselves, using an OTT box as the host, an XBox as the host, a cable set-top box as the host, or even a computer as the host; there are more options for audio. Just like computer users assembling computers in IT stores in the past, they can have the fun of combining them.   (Photo: Game room designed specifically for TV + controller) Recently, Internet manufacturers have made split TVs. The display, host, and speakers of this "TV" are completely separated. Users can replace other hosts or other sound systems. When seeing this product, the first thought is "This is a product with Internet thinking, and this is a product that meets user needs." Users can use an Internet set-top box as the host, a home theater speaker as the sound output, and a split TV screen as the display. Some users may say: "It is a very complicated process to connect such a split TV." But now there are dozens of jacks on TVs, so isn't its wiring complicated? In the future, if the TV is just a monitor, it only needs an HDMI interface, and the connection method will be much simpler. Maybe one day, when we buy a TV, just like shopping in a computer market, we can pick a monitor from company A, a host from company B, a set of speakers from company C, a handle from company D, a steering wheel from company E, a ray gun from company F, etc., and simply assemble it at home to form our home entertainment center. I believe that the concept of split modularization will inject new vitality into the TV industry. (The author is the founder and CEO of the video game developer "Lucky Bird Games")
