With the advancement of science and technology year by year, there have been many debates in the development direction of the color TV industry today, such as the "straight" and "curved" debate on form, and the debate between OLED and ULED in display technology. However, on the issue of the "thickness" of TVs, both manufacturers and consumers prefer ultra-thin TVs. Lu Renbo, deputy secretary-general of the China Electronic Commerce Association, believes that 100% of TV manufacturers will make ultra-thin TVs in the future.
"Thin" is more in line with the public's aesthetics In the 1930s, the famous architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe proposed the design concept of "Less is more", advocating simplicity and clarity and opposing excessive decoration. In recent years, this concept has not only been used in the field of architecture, but also in the industrial design of electronic products. In the field of consumer electronics, consumers are constantly pursuing ultra-thin mobile phones, ultra-light laptops, ultra-micro USB flash drives, etc., and of course the corresponding internal demands are ultra-large screens, ultra-high performance, and ultra-large capacity. Consumers' demands can basically be summarized as "both good-looking and easy to use." The same is true in the color TV industry. After entering the flat-panel era, the pursuit of "extreme thinness" has never stopped. The average thickness of flat-panel TVs before 2005 was 90mm. In 2008, the thickness of Hitachi's Woo series was reduced to 35mm, which accelerated the process of making flat-panel TVs thinner. In 2009, Sony launched the ZX1 with a thickness of 10mm. Since then, the ultra-thin market has remained calm. Since 2015, driven by the progress of upstream core technology of liquid crystal display screens, the thickness of some LCD TV products from mainstream brands such as Sony, Skyworth, Konka, LG, and Changhong has been reduced to less than 7.5mm, or even 4.9mm. The thickness of LCD TVs is beginning to be thinner than smartphones, and a new round of ultra-thin competition in the color TV industry has begun.
Too thin In the future, ultra-thin TVs will become the mainstream choice of consumers. According to the forecast of AVC, a research organization, China, as the world's largest TV market, is expected to form a market size of 45.35 million units in 2017, of which ultra-thin TVs will reach 7 million units, accounting for 15.4%, and growing rapidly at an average annual rate of 165%. However, will the performance of a TV be reduced after it becomes as thin as wallpaper? How thin is an ultra-thin LCD TV? These voices from consumers are influencing the development of the ultra-thin LCD TV market. At the ultra-thin TV industry technical seminar held on June 4, people in the color TV industry fully explained the current status of ultra-thin LCD TV product technology and market situation. At the same time, the industry authority proposed the "Ultra-thin TV Industry Technical Specifications" for the first time, giving an industry definition of ultra-thin LCD TVs: Under existing technical conditions, ultra-thin LCD TVs are considered ultra-thin if the thinnest part is between 9-20mm, and top-level ultra-thin if it is less than 9mm, and the thinnest area accounts for no less than 30% of the total area of the TV. Lu Renbo, deputy secretary-general of the China Electronic Commerce Association, said that the "Ultra-thin TV Industry Technical Specifications" is the industry's first standard that clearly defines the thinness and thickness of ultra-thin LCD TV products, providing guidance for the standardized development of the ultra-thin LCD TV market. But it is worth noting that excessive compression of the TV cavity can also cause some problems. For example, before the emergence of wall-mounted ultra-thin TVs, the "big-headed" TVs were bulky and had relatively poor picture quality, but their sound effects were much better than today's ultra-thin TVs. Whether watching TV series or playing games, users can get a clear and loud sound experience. In order to solve this problem, more and more TV manufacturers, while pursuing the ultimate thinness of TVs, choose to externalize the internal audio and hardware of the TV, and use external speakers and boxes to completely turn the TV into a thin display screen. The most "radical" of these is the Damai TV launched by Dr. Peng. For consumers, whether it is ultra-thin TVs, curved TVs, split TVs, etc., the diversified development of TV forms provides them with more choices and a richer user experience.
