199IT original compilation As the Internet of Things (IoT) continues to gain attention, challenges are also coming. According to a January 2016 survey, business executives said security is the most important reason hindering the development of the IoT. A survey by James Brehm & Associates shows that two-thirds of business executives (64%) worldwide say security is the biggest obstacle to the development of the Internet of Things; interoperability is closely behind, with 51% of respondents responding. Other barriers include cost, hardware integration, and business executives’ inability to justify ROI. In addition, 60% of respondents said their companies are working on IoT projects to increase revenue and profits, and nearly a quarter of respondents said they hope to improve business processes. Generally speaking, marketers use IoT to track and reach consumers. A July 2015 2nd Watch survey found that nearly 6 in 10 US IT and business executives said they had used IoT for online marketing. However, it is too early for most people to do so, as two-thirds of users said that the Internet of Things is still in its infancy. 199IT.com Originally compiled from: eMarketer.
