Evidence of Beijing's 3,000-year history is here! A picture shows the new archaeological achievements of the Liulihe site

The Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau announced on December 19 that a bronze yu (pronounced yǒu, referring to an ancient wine container) was unearthed in a Western Zhou tomb that was newly excavated this year at the Liulihe site in Fangshan, Beijing.

According to reports, the inscriptions on the bronze jar include "Taibao", "Yongyan", "Yanhou Palace" and other words. Relevant experts believe that the word "Yong" in the inscription means building a city, which proves that the important minister of the Zhou Dynasty, Duke Zhao, personally visited the Liulihe site and built the capital here. This inscription verifies the history of Beijing's city construction for more than 3,000 years with textual materials, and has unique value in the study of world urban history.

Recently, a bronze gui with an inscription was unearthed at the Liulihe site in Fangshan, which further confirmed the name and character system of the Western Zhou Dynasty. The newly unearthed bronze masks, animal-shaped bronze ornaments, groups of bronze chariots and horses, and hollow copper spears with sockets have exquisite patterns and rich details, and also show diverse cultural factors.
