Speedcheck: 35.2% of Americans say their devices don't support 5G

Although US telecom companies have been aggressively promoting 5G communication services to consumers, it seems to have had little effect, and the number of 5G users is still small. A company has conducted an investigation into the reasons. According to foreign media reports, a recent survey conducted by Speedcheck showed that there are many reasons why Americans lag behind in 5G applications, and the biggest reason is that their devices do not support 5G.

The survey shows that 35.2% of people said that the reason they do not use 5G is because their devices do not support 5G. There are many reasons for this, the main reason being that users' smartphone replacement cycle is too long.

Surveys show that American smartphone users generally replace their phones every two years or so, but Apple, as a local brand, only began to support 5G with its iPhone 12 series released in 2020.

Therefore, for iPhone users in the United States, there are still many users whose devices have not been replaced, which prevents them from using 5G. However, data from Figure Wireless shows that 60% of smartphones sold in the United States in the third quarter of this fiscal year support 5G.

Secondly, 29% of users do not use 5G because their area is not yet covered by 5G signals. Although some large mobile operators claim that 5G signals have covered 90% of the country, the actual situation is that nearly 30% of users cannot access the 5G network.

In addition, 18.7% of people expressed satisfaction with the current 3G/4G services; 8.5% said that 5G charges are too expensive; 6.4% worried that 5G would have an impact on their physical health; and 6.3% said that the mobile operators they use will not provide 5G services.

It is worth mentioning that a previous report showed that the 5G coverage of the three major US operators T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon was accused of false advertising. Not only did the network speed not meet the standards, but the network could only be accessed during certain time periods.
