DIGITIMES Research: Global electric vehicle penetration is expected to exceed 30% in 2025

Recently, according to DIGITIMES, as the penetration rate of electric vehicles is expected to exceed 30% in 2025, the demand for electric vehicle infrastructure is growing rapidly. China, the United States and the European Union are all accelerating the construction of charging piles and other green energy facilities. According to DIGITIMES Research, global total automobile sales increased by 3.8% to 71 million in 2021, while global electric vehicle (EV) sales more than doubled in the same year. In the medium and long term, electric vehicle sales are expected to reach 29.64 million in 2025, with a penetration rate of more than 30%.

The report said that China has the largest number of electric vehicles and public charging stations, with the highest ratio of charging stations to electric vehicles at 1/6, while Europe is 1/11 and the United States is 1/16.

Sources from suppliers said that nearly 80% of electric vehicle chargers in the global market are CCS1, CCS2 and GB/T, and the order growth of CCS (combined charging system) type is relatively stable. Among them, CCS is the mainstream in Europe and the United States, while GB/T is China's national standard.

Currently, charger manufacturers are working to install more chargers and reduce the time required for charging. Sources said that charging an electric car with a DC fast charger may only take the same amount of time as refueling a fuel car. Therefore, the market demand for fast chargers is rising.

But the sources added that fast charging solutions involve high power and therefore place higher demands on the grid and safety standards, so fast chargers are not being deployed as quickly as regular chargers.
