IDC: Enterprise market and hybrid devices are boosters for PC market

According to the technology website TechRadar, compared with the booming mobile phone and tablet markets, the PC market is really miserable. IDC predicts that PC sales will continue to decline in the fourth quarter of this year, but the replacement trend in the enterprise market and the launch of various new hybrid PCs will inject a shot of adrenaline into the PC market. While the sales of mobile phones and tablets are booming and the atmosphere is peaceful, the PC market is quite miserable. According to the latest data from IDC, the sales of the PC market in the fourth quarter of this year still cannot escape the fate of decline.

DC predicts that PC shipments in the fourth quarter of this year are likely to drop by 10%, which means that the PC market will shrink by 10.3% in 2015. In addition, PC demand will continue to be weak at the beginning of next year. However, by the end of 2016, the PC market is likely to usher in a small climax, because the enterprise market will have a concentrated wave of replacement.

"As Windows 10 adoption increases, coupled with the aging of many corporate PCs, we expect enterprises to make large purchases in late 2016," IDC said. "This also happened in 2014, when Windows 7 replaced the once-popular Windows XP."

2015 was a year of weak sales

There are many reasons for the decline in PC market sales this year, such as the strengthening of the US dollar, lower commodity profit margins and large inventories. In addition, the hot sales of smartphones and tablet devices have also had a huge impact on traditional PCs, but IDC is still optimistic about the future performance of the PC market.

Lauren, director of PC market forecasting at IDC, said: "Although smartphones and tablet devices have been integrated into our lives, people have not completely given up on PCs, but have reduced the frequency of replacement."

Given the weak demand in the consumer market, PC manufacturers will shift their focus to the enterprise and education markets in the future.

In addition, Windows 10 may also be one of the important reasons for the weak PC sales. Previously, the Windows operating system has always been a paid strategy, and consumers are more willing to buy PCs bundled with the new system. However, this year the situation is different. Windows 10 has adopted a free strategy, so many consumers simply upgrade directly.

However, due to Windows 10's enhanced optimization for new devices, such as two-in-one portable PCs, sales of such hybrid devices have been rising. Although this will further erode the living space of traditional PCs, it is still a major positive news for the future of the PC market.
