Apple slows down old iPhones, but Android phones call it "artificial intelligence"

The following content may cause discomfort to a large number of Android users, please watch with caution.

The fact that old iPhones will slow down has finally been confirmed. The reason why the phone becomes slow is not because you want to change your phone, but because the aging of the phone battery will cause the system to slow down and become stuck; and the reason for the slowdown and lag is the processor frequency reduction.

After the incident was exposed, Apple also officially issued a statement, acknowledging the problem, saying that lithium-ion batteries will not be able to provide stable peak current in cold environments, or when they are low on power or aging. This situation will cause the phone to shut down unexpectedly to protect its electronic components.

To put it more simply, what Apple means is that battery loss is inevitable, so in order to ensure your basic experience, it limits performance output to prevent your phone from breaking down faster.

It seems to be a very user-friendly function, but in fact it does not seem fair to ordinary users. Many users think that Apple deliberately makes old devices more and more difficult to use so as to motivate them to buy new devices.

Even if Apple is doing this for the overall experience of the phone, consumers should have the right to know about the "optimization" Apple has made at the system level and have the right to make a choice.

As a result, American consumers are preparing to file a class action lawsuit against Apple.

Apart from Apple, are Android phones clean? If you are familiar with the hot issues of smartphones in recent years, you will find that manufacturers can do a lot to control processor frequency, and they can also give various high-sounding reasons.

Let's start with Apple's most direct competitor, Samsung. Many people say that Samsung is famous for lagging after only six months of use. Don't worry, Samsung is not only lagging, but also falsifying running scores.

When the phone is running benchmarks, the machine will automatically increase the CPU performance. When in normal use, the CPU frequency will be reduced in order to control power consumption and ensure battery life.

It can be said that all mobile phone manufacturers will implement a function to avoid overheating and battery loss by regulating performance output. In addition, for smartphones, long-term and high-frequency use will also cause irreversible damage to the battery. Therefore, in order to ensure long-term battery life, lowering the overall CPU frequency can be said to be a helpless move.

But from the perspective of consumers, if you make this clear, it's actually fine. It's really wrong for Apple to be so secretive, and the "artificial intelligence" that some Android manufacturers have come up with is even more misleading.

Finally, let’s talk about how frequency reduction is achieved from a technical perspective. The temperature sensor built into the SoC will transmit the detected SoC temperature to the TMU thermal power control unit.

If the temperature is too high (higher than the setting rules of each model), the clock controller of the power manager and the CPU frequency reduction will be controlled through a high-priority interrupt controller to ensure that the system temperature is within the appropriate range.

In fact, frequency locking at the system level is easier to achieve. When the battery loss reaches a certain percentage, the system will directly reduce and lock the frequency, thereby controlling power consumption to reduce battery consumption and extend battery life, thus prolonging the life of the phone.

Now that things have been made clear, Apple is not the only one that does frequency throttling. Consumers can calm down and weigh the pros and cons of whether to defend their rights.
