Let’s start with a few small questions to understand this roundtable:

Aerospace personnel have always had very high demands on quality. Have you felt any changes over the years?

Wang Baosen: In aerospace, there is a saying called zero defects. What is zero defects? It means that no defects are allowed. This is very important for us, because in aerospace system engineering, quality is our life, our responsibility, and also a strong guarantee for our country's national defense. Our slogan is to do things right the first time. If in your process, even if you can achieve a 99.9% pass rate for the workpiece, you think it is very good, but in this huge aerospace system engineering, after dozens or even hundreds of processes, your product pass rate may be 95% or even lower. It is absolutely not allowed in aerospace system engineering. We require 100% and zero defects, which cannot be changed. Therefore, among aerospace people, the four words "striving for excellence" are never a slogan, but a real goal of our work.

How has the space station performed in orbit? What are some of the things that impressed you most during your time in orbit?

Shi Liming: Since the space station was launched on April 29, it has undergone a series of in-orbit tests, including subsequent dockings with Tianzhou-2, Tianzhou-3, Shenzhou-12 and Shenzhou-13, as well as a series of other tasks including ground-to-space communications and space teaching. So far, all performances can be said to be perfect.

During this period, there are two things that are most important or impressive to me. The first thing is when Shenzhou 12 entered the space station for the first time. When they opened the four hatches and flew into the core module, I was very excited at that time. It was like the module that I had worked on for ten years was perfectly displayed. Ten years of hard work was worth it.

The second is when going out of the cabin. Extravehicular activities are very risky and one of the most dangerous activities in space. When astronaut Liu Boming went out of the cabin for the first time, he exclaimed, "It's so beautiful outside." We participated in the activity in the flight control hall. Following their footsteps, we also saw our beautiful home planet and the bright starry sky. We were also very shocked. Of course, the whole process was still very tense. We could not rest assured until they finally returned very smoothly and closed the door and passed the inspection.

What do you think about the rapid development of aerospace materials?

Hong Yiqiang: There is a saying in the industry that one generation of materials is one generation of aerospace , which is enough to show the promotion of advanced materials technology to the entire aerospace industry. In turn, aerospace technology has developed rapidly in recent years, so driven by its intelligent equipment, the entire materials industry, especially structural composite materials represented by carbon fiber and functional composite materials represented by heat protection, has developed rapidly.

It can be said that through the efforts of the past few years, the composite materials used in many of our aircraft are unprecedented in terms of breadth and depth of application. Some aircraft now, except for a few individual components, can basically achieve full composite material. From this perspective, the development of materials in recent years has provided strong support for the entire aircraft.

The space station has changed from "one room and one living room" to "three rooms and one living room". How do the craftsmen of the space station decorate the cargo spacecraft, manned spacecraft and space station?

Zhang Ge: To be specific, it is through the production and design of interior decoration that the space station, Shenzhou spacecraft and cargo spacecraft are meticulously decorated. The spacecraft is refined from a simple rough room to an exquisite and comfortable first-class cabin. The comfort and aesthetics of the spacecraft are improved by sampling, producing and installing the interior decoration. We have also made many modifications in the process of interior decoration production. We used to use simple kraft paper for simple complex sampling, manual cutting and sewing, and installation in the spacecraft. Now we use fully automated technology to sample and complex the three-dimensional model of the spacecraft, design and produce the interior decoration, and use a three-dimensional automated cutting table to cut and complex the interior decoration. When the interior decoration is carefully installed, we use three-dimensional projection technology for detailed adjustment and installation, thereby comprehensively improving the beauty, reliability and comfort of the cabin.
