Helio X25 is not powerful enough? Is Meizu PRO 6 considered a high-end flagship?

Many people say that because of the Meizu Blue Note 3, Meizu "over-expected" on thousand-yuan phones at the beginning of 2016, making it difficult to make high-end models. However, with the release of Meizu PRO 6 on April 13, this statement does make sense in some ways.

Meizu PRO 6 obviously failed to meet everyone's expectations. The 5.2-inch 1080P screen is "conservative" enough; the MediaTek Helio X25 processor does not have the "flagship temperament" of 820 and 8890; full network access, blind SIM card insertion and Volte technology are also available on Meizu Blue Note 3; even the eMMC 5.1 storage is said to be 94% faster than eMMC 5.0, while the previous generation PRO 5 uses UFS 2.0...

So, what makes the Meizu PRO 6 considered high-end?

Faster and safer mCharge 3.0

Since the concept of "fast charging" came into being, different mobile phone products have been unable to escape the competition in this field. Because Meizu has not adopted Qualcomm's chip solution, its performance in fast charging is not eye-catching. The mCharge 3.0 equipped with Meizu PRO 6 is expected to change this situation.

First of all, the mCharge 3.0 8V/3A charging specification gives the Meizu PRO 6 a charging power of 24W. It is advertised that it can be charged to 26% in 10 minutes and fully charged in one hour.

More importantly, the Meizu PRO 6 has put more effort into charging safety. In addition to the phone itself, it even added a monitoring chip to the USB Type-C charging connector.

It is also worth noting that the USB Type-C on the Meizu PRO 6 is no longer just for the convenience of blind plugging in either direction. Support for the USB 3.1 gen1 standard allows the phone to import a high-definition American TV series in 5 seconds.

Very interesting camera

The Meizu PRO 6 uses the same IMX230 photosensitive element as its previous products, but in other aspects of the camera, Meizu has added some more interesting things this time.

The thickness of the lens is not a parameter that mobile phone manufacturers often talk about. Meizu claims that with the help of Apple's suppliers, the thickness of the lens glass has been reduced by 14% compared to PRO 5. However, it seems that the lens of Meizu PRO 6 is still protruding on the back.

In addition, the most obvious feature on the back of the Meizu PRO 6 is a dual-color temperature ring flash composed of 10 LEDs, which looks like an accessory on Iron Man. The laser focus area in the middle of the ring flash is also said to have a 4-fold increase in distance.

3D Touch for Android

Last year, Huawei beat Apple to 3D Touch and was the first to use a pressure-sensitive screen on a mobile phone. But today, Meizu's 3D Press has "copied" 3D Touch on Android phones more thoroughly.

Meizu 3D Press has almost the same operating logic as Apple's 3D Touch. Its purpose is to add a third operating dimension to touch-screen phones in addition to the two-dimensional space, and to put the settings and other items in the original APP on the desktop.

Judging from the demonstration at the press conference, the triggering and display of 3D Press is no different from 3D Touch. Unfortunately, it is currently supported by only 20 third-party applications, which makes Bai Yongxiang himself feel unconfident when introducing this feature. Perhaps the future prospects of this new feature of Meizu mobile phones still depend on how many developers will be attracted by the full opening of the 3D Press SDK in the Flyme system.

What kind of thoughts does Meizu PRO 6 trigger?

Overall, the high-end nature of the Meizu PRO 6 slightly lacks the screaming feeling of previous domestic flagship phones.

Mobile phone performance is becoming more and more excessive, and the homogeneity of hardware configuration and appearance design shows no sign of easing. From the surprising Meizu M3 to the calm PRO 6, it can be said that entry-level mobile phones can be made more and more extreme, but the bottleneck of high-end smartphones has begun to emerge.

It is not quite appropriate to regard the Meizu PRO 6 as the successor of the PRO 5. In fact, it is more like an attempt by mobile phone manufacturers to return to small screens when they have no other options for high-end products, just like the iPhone SE released by Apple and the subsequent "hello, small screen" of various domestic brands. Although this does seem to be somewhat contrary to the large-screen trend of "Note", "Max" and "Plus" in recent years.

On the other hand, Meizu has chosen MediaTek processors for its two new models this year. The starting price of Meizu PRO 6 is 2,499 yuan, which is positioned as a high-end device. It has also become a major attraction whether MediaTek, whose X10 chip was dragged down by Redmi last year, can "bundle" Meizu to impact the high-end market again and rewrite the ranking of upstream mobile phone suppliers.

Objectively speaking, MediaTek is becoming more and more powerful, and Helio X25 is good in all aspects. However, if Xiaomi comes up with another Redmi X25 priced at 799 or 899 yuan, things will become ugly.
