Mazda recalls some RX-8s due to fuel spill risk

Recently, Mazda (China) Enterprise Management Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, and will recall some imported RX-8 vehicles starting from December 26, 2016. The recall involves imported RX-8 vehicles of the 2005 model year produced between April 14, 2005 and February 15, 2008. According to the company, a total of 361 vehicles in mainland China are involved. Reason for recall: The vehicles within the scope of this recall have insufficient thermal insulation on the fuel tank pump cover, which may cause cracks to form on the fuel tank pump cover after repeated heat from the engine and exhaust pipe, which may cause fuel spillage or even fire, posing a safety hazard. Solution: Mazda (China) Enterprise Management Co., Ltd. will replace the fuel tank pump cover for the recalled vehicles free of charge and add a heat shield on the fuel tank. If the relevant users find a fuel odor or fuel leakage, they should contact the dealer for inspection as soon as possible. Mazda (China) Enterprise Management Co., Ltd. will entrust FAW Mazda Automobile Sales Co., Ltd. to notify users by registered mail or other means.
