Electric driverless cars are running at a speed of up to 350 kilometers per hour

DevBot is an electric self-driving car that was recently tested in Morocco at the Formula E Marrakech ePrix street circuit.

The DevBot involved in the test is just a prototype developed by Roborace. The driverless car will race on a temporary city track. Justin Cooke, an executive of Roborace, told CNN: "This is the first time that Devbot has been tested in Formula E city streets in driverless mode. The team has invested a lot of time. Team members will get up at 1 to 2 in the morning to develop technology. Looking around the world, no one has been able to make it reach such a high speed and drive in such a complex environment."

DevBot is equipped with numerous sensors, including GPS, radar, and ultrasonic sensors, which, when combined with sophisticated computer programs, allow the car to know how fast to drive on the track and avoid obstacles. Cook said: "What we are working on now is a cutting-edge technology."

The car was tested for 30 minutes in Marrakech, Morocco, where this year's UN climate change conference is taking place. Cook said the next step is to test both cars on the track at the same time, with the ultimate goal of increasing the number of cars to as many as 10 per Formula E ePrix weekend.

DevBot claims to be the world's first electric racing car, capable of reaching a top speed of 215 mph (350 km/h). The team originally planned to test the car on the Hong Kong ePrix street circuit, but due to battery charging problems, the car could only stay in the garage.

The DevBot car was developed by a small team of engineers and computer scientists. "We installed several sensors on the car, first of all laser equipment, which can create a 3D image of the surrounding world," said Sergey Malygin, a developer at Roborace AI. Malygin also said: "We installed cameras, radar components, ultrasonic components, which are used to obtain information about the car and the base station. We also have a sophisticated positioning system and a light speed sensor."

"Another important component is the computing platform," Malikin explained. "In order to get information inside the car, process it, understand what is happening around it, and make this understanding valuable, the system needs powerful computing power."

Algorithms interpret the raw data and tell the car where the walls are and where the other cars are.

"One engine drives one wheel, so you can do torque vectoring, you can better control the power to the wheel, control the driving style and performance. This system is more advanced than the traditional stability control system ABS," said Matas Simonavicius, a Roborace engineer.

Are self-driving cars a good idea? Simonavisis said: "I think so. What is the main cause of accidents now? Human error. That's why we want to test this car in a controlled environment, without hurting anyone, to prove its effectiveness. We want to change people's perception of self-driving cars. People will see them racing, see them driving safely, and see them do some cool things."
