Jaguar F-TYPE will adopt a mid-engine layout or launch an electric version

At the ongoing 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, Jaguar Design Director Ian Callum said in an interview that the next-generation Jaguar F-TYPE will adopt a mid-engine layout.

Currently, the Jaguar F-TYPE adopts a front-engine rear-wheel drive layout. In the future, the use of a mid-engine rear-wheel drive layout will help the body weight distribution approach an ideal balance state, which will be more helpful for improving the performance of the model, and also make the car more pure - in line with performance. In history, Jaguar has launched three mid-engine models: XJ13, XJR-15, and XJ220. Among them, only the XJ220 has achieved mass production, which means that the new F-TYPE will become Jaguar's second mid-engine model to be officially mass-produced. In addition to the news about the F-TYPE, Ian Callum also proposed the idea of planning to build a pure electric sports car. He said, "Although we can't say that our next sports car will use a pure electric system, it will definitely be in the future."
About Jaguar F-TYPE:
At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Jaguar launched a C-X16 concept car, which is the smallest model since the Jaguar XK120 was launched in 1954. This concept car is the prototype of the Jaguar F-TYPE. The Jaguar F-TYPE convertible version was first unveiled at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and officially unveiled at the subsequent Paris Motor Show. The two-door coupe version of the car was also officially unveiled at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show and then went on sale in the first quarter of 2014.
At the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016, Jaguar launched the SVR version of the F-TYPE, which is equipped with a 5.0T V8 supercharged engine with a maximum output of 575 horsepower and a peak torque of 700 Nm, and is matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The F-TYPE SVR has a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 3.5 seconds at the fastest, and the hardtop version can reach a top speed of 322km/h (200mph), making it another Jaguar model that can reach a speed of 322km/h after the XJ220.
