Ford recalls more than 680,000 midsize cars in North America over seat belt faults

According to foreign media reports on December 3, Ford will recall more than 680,000 mid-size sedans in North America due to a failure of the front seat belt pretensioners, which cannot secure the driver and passengers in the event of a safety accident. The recall affects certain 2013 to 2016 Fusion vehicles, 2013 to 2015 Lincoln MKZ vehicles and 2015 to 2016 Mondeo sedans. Ford said that when the seat belt pretensioner is working, the high temperature generated may cause the pretensioner seat belt to loosen. Once the above situation occurs, the seat belt may not be able to fix the driver and occupants in the event of a car accident. Ford said it has learned of two injuries related to the seat belt pretensioner. The recall is expected to begin on January 16, 2017. Dealers will perform pretensioner insulation treatment on the recalled vehicles free of charge to prevent the pretensioner seat belts from overheating. Most of the recalled vehicles are concentrated in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
