There may be 32 hidden dangers. The Korean Ministry of Transportation forces Hyundai Kia to recall 240,000 vehicles

According to Reuters, on May 11 local time, Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors said they would recall 240,000 vehicles in South Korea at the request of the South Korean Ministry of Transport. It is reported that this is the first time that the South Korean Ministry of Transport has issued a mandatory recall order.

Last year, Kim Gwang-ho, a 26-year-old Hyundai engineer, reported 32 hidden dangers in his vehicle to the vehicle safety regulator. Subsequently, the Korean Ministry of Transportation required the automaker involved to recall the vehicle for eight of the hidden dangers and offered to repair the other nine for free.

In addition, the Ministry of Transportation of South Korea also asked the regulatory authorities to investigate whether the above-mentioned automakers have deliberately concealed five types of vehicle safety hazards. The above-mentioned hazards affect a total of 12 models, including Elantra, Sonata, Santa Fe and Genesis.

Previously, the Korean Ministry of Transportation had issued a voluntary recall order to Hyundai and Kia, but the two companies refused to recall the vehicles on the grounds that the hidden dangers were not enough to affect driving safety. Therefore, the Korean Ministry of Transportation issued a mandatory recall order. In response to the mandatory recall order, Hyundai and Kia said they "accepted the administrative order", but also added that "no reports of related traffic accidents have been received so far."

Hyundai Kia said in a statement, "Safety has always been Hyundai Kia's top priority. In order to cooperate with global and domestic regulatory procedures, we decided to recall or take other protective measures."

Last month, Hyundai and Kia voluntarily recalled 1.5 million vehicles in South Korea and the United States due to the risk of engine stalling. Kim Gwang-ho also said that Hyundai and Kia vehicles have this risk.
