UNEP: Emissions Gap Report 2022

UNEP: Emissions Gap Report 2022

Since the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) held in Glasgow, UK last year, the latest climate commitments made by countries have had little impact on the predicted emissions in 2030, and the world is still far from the 1.5°C temperature rise target of the Paris Agreement. According to the latest data estimates, by the end of this century, the temperature will rise by 2.8°C, although the implementation of current commitments will only reduce the temperature rise to 2.4-2.6°C.

The report finds that only an urgent system-wide transformation can achieve the dramatic cuts needed to limit greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. A 45% reduction in emissions is needed to achieve the 1.5°C target, and a 30% reduction is needed to achieve the 2°C target, compared to projections based on current policies.
