With a range of over 450km, Qoros 3 EV may be launched in November

Recently, Qoros Auto's senior management announced at a supplier conference held in Changshu that the sales target for 2018 is "to strive for 100,000 vehicles and challenge 120,000 vehicles". This is 20,000 more than the 80,000 vehicles target proposed in March this year. In addition, Qoros plans to launch 1-2 new energy vehicles every year in the new energy field. The first new energy product in 2018, Qoros 3 EV, has a starting range of 450 kilometers and is expected to be launched around the Guangzhou Auto Show. Specific information about the new car will be announced before and after the launch.

Qoros 3 EV Concept

In fact, as early as during the 2016 Beijing Auto Show, the Qoros 3 EV concept car was officially unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show. Officials announced that its 0-100km/h acceleration time is 7.9 seconds, the top speed is 162km/h, and it can complete 80% fast charging in 1 hour. It is also stated that the prototype of the car will be on the road in the fourth quarter of 2016, and the mass production car will be launched in September 2017. But now it seems that this plan has been postponed from 2017 to 2018.

Data shows that Qoros sold 6,967 vehicles in 2014, 14,247 vehicles in 2015, 24,188 vehicles in 2016, and 15,381 vehicles in 2017. In the past four years, the sales volume has just exceeded 60,000 vehicles. From January to May this year, the sales volume of the five models sold by Qoros totaled 23,754 vehicles, with a significant increase in overall sales volume, a year-on-year increase of 366%, but still a large gap compared with the "small goal" of 100,000 vehicles for the whole year. In addition, except for the sharp increase in sales of Qoros 5, the sales volume of the other models showed a downward trend.

However, it is clear that after Baoneng acquired Qoros, the latter's development speed in all aspects has indeed been accelerated. In terms of funds, Baoneng Group Chairman Yao Zhenhua has already stated that starting from 2018, Baoneng Group will invest 10 billion yuan every year for five consecutive years in the research and development of new cars for Qoros Automobile; in terms of channels, after signing 51 new first-level dealers, Qoros officials said that the current number of dealers has reached 255.

In terms of talent, three generals from the BAIC Group have joined Baoneng this year, including Li Feng, former member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of BAIC Group and Dean of the New Technology Research Institute of BAIC Group; Cai Jianjun, former vice president of BAIC Group and secretary of the Party Committee, executive director and general manager of BAIC Sales Company; Chen Siying, deputy general manager of BAIC Sales Company, and they will also directly participate in the management of boosting Qoros Auto. In terms of more direct sales, Qoros Auto is no longer only targeting C-end users (i.e. individual users), but has begun to focus on a larger number of B-end users (i.e. organizational users). It is reported that Qoros Auto has received a large order from Shenzhen Qianhai Liandongyun Car Rental Co., Ltd. (Liandongyun), with the order quantity of at least 10,000 vehicles, and Liandongyun Car Rental is a car rental company under Baoneng. Public information shows that Liandongyun's car rental business has spread to more than ten cities including Wuhan, Changsha, Chongqing, Sanya, Nanjing, and Suzhou. This order will greatly alleviate the sluggish sales of Qoros Auto.
