With the rapid development of the new energy vehicle industry, the new energy vehicle insurance market has also been driven forward, becoming an emerging market segment in auto insurance.

Data shows that since 2013, my country's new energy vehicle production and sales have continued to grow. By 2017, the production and sales of new energy vehicles were 794,000 and 777,000, respectively, up 53.8% and 53.3% year-on-year. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, my country's new energy vehicle production and sales are expected to exceed 1 million for the first time this year.

At the same time, the insurance demand for new energy vehicles is also growing rapidly. According to statistics from China Insurance Information Service, the number of new energy vehicles insured in 2017 reached 1.717 million, a year-on-year increase of 47.0%; the premium scale was 10.16 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 50.4%.

Between 2013 and 2017, the number of new energy vehicles insured by the insurance industry grew at an average annual rate of 78.6%. In addition, the China Society of Automotive Engineers predicted in its Energy-Saving and New Energy Vehicle Technology Roadmap that the number of new energy vehicles will reach 80 million by 2030. Based on this estimate, the premium for new energy vehicles will reach 470 billion yuan by 2030.

Under this trend, insurance companies including China Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance"), Changan Liability Insurance Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Changan Insurance"), and Taikang Online Property & Casualty Insurance Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Taikang Online") have all made arrangements in new energy vehicle insurance.

As a representative of large property and casualty insurance companies, Wang Peng, manager of the Auto Insurance Department of the Personal Business Group of Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Headquarters, told China.com Finance reporter that Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance attaches great importance to the layout of new energy auto insurance. As early as more than a year ago, a special project team was established to carry out work from multiple angles such as products and claims. Through research on customers' demands for new energy auto insurance and the problems and pain points encountered in using new energy vehicles, some exclusive products and services have been developed. In the future, Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance will continue to increase investment in product innovation and strive to maintain its leading position in the field of new energy auto insurance.


As a small and medium-sized property and casualty insurance company, Jia Zhenlei, assistant general manager of Changan Insurance's auto insurance underwriting department, told China.com.cn that the company has applied traditional auto insurance clauses to conduct trial underwriting in Anhui, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Hunan, and regularly monitors the underwriting volume and compensation ratio in the pilot areas. After the new clauses of the China Insurance Association are officially implemented, the company plans to select several key branches and several key and mainstream auto brands to promote related business.

As the first Internet insurance company initiated by a large domestic traditional insurance company, Taikang Online's deputy general manager and head of auto insurance business Zuo Weidong once said in an interview that Taikang Online has paid attention to the development trend of new energy vehicles and will closely monitor the changes in the auto industry itself. In response to many changing trends, Taikang Online has also made preparations in two aspects: one is to prepare technically; the other is to continue to communicate with regulatory authorities, hoping to launch products suitable for Internet sales and different from traditional auto insurance as soon as possible.
