Free data for life? SAIC-GM upgrades its Internet of Vehicles service

On August 23, SAIC-GM announced that it will launch a large number of innovative "cloud" services for the Internet of Vehicles in the next two years. From now on, it will provide 24G of "OnStar car-connected application traffic for life free" service every year to all users of SAIC-GM's Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac brands that have installed car-connected applications.

In 2009, General Motors, SAIC Motor Corporation and Shanghai GM jointly established OnStar Information Services Co., Ltd., focusing on in-vehicle safety, security and communication services.

In 2015, OnStar launched in-vehicle 4G LTE services and released the "2025 Internet of Vehicles Strategy" last year. Now, the new generation of car networking systems have been widely used in models of the three major brands of Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac.

By 2019, SAIC-GM's new models will be equipped with more and richer in-vehicle functions and owner services, such as online radio and music services.

By 2020, SAIC-GM's vehicle series will be 100% cloud-connected. By then, 5G ultra-high-speed network technology will be put into use, bringing users an ultra-high-speed in-vehicle mobile Internet experience.

SAIC-GM said that in the future it will accelerate the popularization of new-generation intelligent driving assistance systems such as ACC adaptive cruise control, LKA lane keeping, CMB collision mitigation, and SBZA side blind zone warning, and will gradually cover the company's 150,000 yuan-level models.

With the advent of the Internet car era, electric, intelligent, shared and connected cars have become a trend. Traditional cars are embracing the Internet for change.
