From September 15 to 18, during the 2018 Wuxi World Internet of Things Expo, Ford Motor Company publicly demonstrated the application scenarios of C-V2X technology for the first time, marking Ford Motor Company's significant progress in supporting the global development and application of C-V2X technology. This technology can help improve vehicle safety performance, enhance road traffic efficiency, and promote the development of autonomous driving technology. C-V2X is an advanced wireless communication technology that enables vehicles, road infrastructure, pedestrians and other traffic participants to connect in real time and exchange information using the "same language". This technology is an important supplement to vehicle sensors, allowing the communication devices of vehicles, lights, traffic signs, cyclists and pedestrians to share information such as current status, location and action intentions. Regardless of the assistance and coverage of cellular networks, this technology can ensure that important warning information can be pushed in a timely and correct manner at critical moments. In May this year, Ford participated in the major project of LTE-V2X city-level demonstration application of vehicle networking in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, the world's first city-level open road vehicle-road collaborative application project. In testing the application of C-V2X technology on open roads in Wuxi City, Ford further evaluated the performance of C-V2X and finally applied the technology to vehicles. With the evolution of cellular communication technology from 4G to 5G, LTE-V2X belongs to the first stage of C-V2X. Working closely with technology partners such as Huawei and China Mobile, Ford is using C-V2X technology in both direct and network modes to develop and test multiple application scenarios, including vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I), vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), and vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P), based on Chinese car owners’ driving habits and road traffic characteristics. As cellular communication technology evolves towards 5G, C-V2X technology can ensure the safety and stability of vehicle networking. C-V2X is an important foundation technology for Ford's vision of the future transportation ecosystem, enabling vehicles to exchange information with road infrastructure. Based on V2I application scenarios, Ford has developed and tested a number of functions that are interconnected with traffic lights in Wuxi. Using C-V2X technology, vehicles can interact with traffic lights in real time through the Wuxi Internet of Vehicles data application platform. The information of the traffic lights ahead can be pushed to nearby vehicles in real time, allowing drivers to know the current status and duration of the traffic lights in a timely manner. The red light warning function issues warnings in advance based on the vehicle's speed, driving intention, and the status of the traffic lights ahead, reminding the driver to brake in time; the green wave speed guidance function recommends the optimal speed range for passing the green light smoothly, so that drivers do not have to wait for the red light, improve fuel economy, and optimize the overall traffic flow. Through the Wuxi Internet of Vehicles data application platform, the traffic information broadcast function allows Ford vehicles to receive abnormal conditions on the road ahead, such as road construction, traffic accidents, congestion or emergency vehicle traffic, reminding drivers to re-plan their routes and reduce the time spent on the road. In addition to Wuxi, Ford is also conducting similar C-V2X tests in the United States and Europe, including real-road tests in Denver, the United States, in August this year, in collaboration with Panasonic and Qualcomm, and cross-brand vehicle tests in Paris in July this year, in collaboration with BMW Group, PSA Group, Qualcomm and Savari.
