Recently, a piece of news about the rear seat heating of Tesla Model 3 has attracted the public's attention. According to reports, Tesla officially launched the rear seat heating function of Model 3, which does not require additional hardware and can be unlocked by an online OTA upgrade, charging US$300 (about RMB 2,000). In other words, Tesla Model 3 cars are already equipped with rear seat heating when they leave the factory, and consumers have already paid for this hardware, but Tesla has blocked this function using software. Tesla's charging strategy quickly aroused dissatisfaction among netizens. It is worth mentioning that this strategy was also very common in the gaming industry, namely the so-called game DLC (downloadable content). Capcom, a famous Japanese action game developer, was once unanimously resisted by players after netizens dug out that the first release disc of "Resident Evil 6" already contained maps and characters for subsequent DLCs, but required players to pay separately to purchase an unlock key of only a few MB in size. Some netizens also joked that Tesla should learn from the free strategy that is popular in the gaming circle today. The Model 3 car should be free with all functions blocked, and consumers should pay to "draw cards" or "unbox". The more practical the function, the lower the explosion rate, "redefine the car". Of course, compared to mobile games where the cost of acquiring new users is almost zero, it is impossible for Tesla Model 3 cars to be given away for free. The ridicule of the "soft unlocking" of the heated rear seats more reflects consumers' dissatisfaction with Tesla for bringing bad practices into the automotive industry.
