The range of electric vehicles has improved by leaps and bounds. Many models have a range of more than 600 kilometers, which has basically eliminated the range anxiety of users. However, another kind of anxiety comes with it, that is, charging anxiety. The battery swap model may be a better way to address the anxiety of car owners about charging and battery degradation.

Because BAIC started its layout early, it has now upgraded its battery swapping technology to version 4.0, making significant improvements in battery swapping speed and capabilities.

It is reported that BAIC's 4.0 version battery swap station has been officially launched. A single battery swap only takes 30 seconds, and the entire process has been shortened from the original 3 minutes to one and a half minutes, achieving a qualitative leap in overall efficiency.

In addition to the efficiency of battery swapping, the overall operational capacity of the battery swap station is also guaranteed. The 4.0 version of the battery swap station can accommodate 60 batteries, more than double the previous number. As a result, the 4.0 version of the battery swap station is designed to provide 400-500 battery swaps per day, which is also doubled compared to the previous version.

Data shows that by the end of December 2020, BAIC will build 9 4.0 battery swap stations and put them into operation.

At present, among the domestic electric vehicle manufacturers, only NIO and BAIC support the battery swap model. Due to the differences in battery pack design and packaging methods, each car company has formed a situation of fighting each other in the construction of battery swap stations.

In the current national support for new energy vehicles, special emphasis is placed on policy support for the battery swap model. For example, electric vehicles that support battery swap can enjoy subsidies even if the selling price exceeds 300,000 yuan. However, the inability to unify standards among car companies is a major obstacle to the future development and popularization of the battery swap model.
