On New Year's Day 2021, Tesla dropped a "nuclear bomb" in the Chinese market - the starting price of the Model Y long-range version was reduced by 148,000 yuan to 339,900 yuan. Subsequently, it was widely rumored on the Internet that the new domestic car-making forces encountered a large-scale order cancellation phenomenon.

However, NIO founder Li Bin said at a subsequent press conference that "NIO's orders are increasing and very stable", which broke the rumors on the Internet. Interestingly, regarding the price reduction of Model Y, Li Bin also commented: "Tesla wants to become the public, while NIO will stick to its own positioning and compete with BBA (Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi)".

Previously, NIO released its delivery data for 2020. In December 2020, NIO's delivery volume exceeded 7,000 vehicles, reaching 7,007 vehicles. A total of 43,728 vehicles were delivered throughout the year, a year-on-year increase of 121%.

Although NIO's products will suffer a huge impact with the price reduction of Model Y, as Li Bin said, this does not mean that NIO will be completely defeated.

It is understood that at the NIO Day event on January 9, 2021, NIO will release a 150kWh battery and its first flagship sedan. If NIO products such as ES6 and EC6 can adopt 150kWh batteries, and the price of NIO's first flagship sedan is attractive enough, then compared with Model Y and Model 3, NIO's products will actually have specific advantages.
