Tesla crashed into guardrail after failing to brake, after-sales test reproduced the accident, official test showed the brakes were qualified

Over the past year, news about Tesla's "brake failure" has been common, but the official statement has always been that it was "misoperation" by the car owner. However, a video circulating online recently seems to have "confirmed" Tesla's brake problem.

It was reported that on March 11, a Mr. Meng from Haikou was driving a Tesla to park. After continuously braking, the vehicle was unable to stop and crashed into the ditch behind the guardrail.

Later, when Tesla's after-sales staff drove another Tesla to the scene of the accident for simulation, the same situation occurred again and the car also crashed into the ditch. The whole process was recorded by Mr. Meng, who was sitting in the back seat, with his mobile phone.

Afterwards, Tesla's after-sales staff told reporters that background data showed that Mr. Meng's Model 3 was operating normally at the time of the accident. When after-sales staff encountered similar problems while driving, it was because the ground was slippery and the vehicle's ABS system was operating normally, which resulted in a longer braking distance.

Afterwards, Tesla invited Hainan Jieantong Automobile Inspection Service Co., Ltd. to inspect the accident vehicle. The results showed that the vehicle's braking system was qualified.

This morning, Tesla officially responded to the Hainan collision accident. Tesla pointed out that in the process of simulating the accident, when using two different braking methods, the vehicle activated the ABS anti-lock braking system, and the braking distance was longer than that on dry roads. "The test reproduced the skidding condition described by the owner" and "brakes to a stop within a safe distance."

However, Tesla's explanation has been widely questioned online. After analysis, an automotive blogger said that the hard pedal that cannot be pressed down is a sign of the disappearance of brake assist. However, since the system is still connected to the oil circuit, a certain braking effect can still be achieved by pressing the pedal with full force. However, most people do not have enough reaction time.

It seems that the situation Tesla encountered was a failure of brake assist caused by a software system problem. Electric vehicles cannot use the vacuum booster pump of fuel vehicles, but instead use an electric motor to drive the master cylinder. Software problems may cause the brake assist in the Fail Safe state to disappear. At this time, the mechanical braking force is too small, which will greatly extend the braking distance and cause danger, as shown in the video.
