Toyota's Chinese factories partially shut down again, chip shortage will cause the automotive industry to lose more than $100 billion

Recently, there were reports that Toyota Motor once again suspended one of its automobile production lines in Guangzhou. Toyota China has confirmed the news, saying that the production capacity adjustment is still due to the insufficient supply of chip-related parts.

It is worth mentioning that in January this year, GAC Honda briefly suspended production due to chip shortages.

It is reported that since 2021, the chip shortage has affected many industries including automakers. Many automakers that cannot get enough chips can only deal with it by suspending production. Toyota's many automobile assembly lines around the world have been affected to varying degrees.

Outside of China, Toyota's Tahara plant in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, stopped production from August 3 to 6, and its Takaoka plant suspended some production lines from August 2 to 6. Toyota Motor announced that the production line suspension caused by chip shortages will reduce Toyota's production by 9,000 vehicles.

In addition, Toyota Motor Thailand also suspended car production at its Banpo plant and its Samlong and Gateway plants on July 20 and 21, respectively.

According to relevant agencies, the global chip shortage will cause the global automotive industry to reduce production by 3.9 million vehicles in 2021, with losses exceeding US$110 billion.
