Recently, a fire broke out in an underground garage in a residential area in Zhujiang New Town, Guangzhou, China. According to investigations, the cause of the accident may be a spontaneous combustion of a red Tesla parked in the basement, and the fire also affected a BMW sedan parked next to it. Afterwards, the BMW owner posted on WeChat Moments: "Tesla's PR team showed up immediately, but they were aloof throughout the whole process and even tried to conceal the scene." The specific behaviors included: trying to take the car away before the firefighters arrived at the scene, covering the car with a flammable cover when the temperature inside was still high, refusing to admit that the car caught fire after being seen on surveillance footage, and "PUAing the owner." Tesla technicians never showed up after the accident. Tesla refused to respond to the BMW owner's loss and said it would only deal with Tesla vehicles. It is understood that the BMW owner, Tesla owner and firefighters all refused Tesla's request to bring the accident vehicle back to the company for internal processing. The vehicle will remain at the scene for further investigation by firefighters. Relevant Tesla personnel responded that the on-site staff did not show a "cold" attitude, and would actively cooperate with the investigations of the fire department, property management and car owners, and wait for further results. This is not the first spontaneous combustion accident involving Tesla in recent times. In July this year, a Tesla Model 3 suddenly caught fire in a residential area in Suzhou, and the owner's complaint has not been resolved. Since the beginning of this year, Tesla's attitude in handling many accidents in China has been disappointing and even infuriating. Previously, the vice president made remarks about "educating car owners", and now he wants to remove the accident vehicle before the firefighters arrive. According to data released by the China Passenger Car Association, in July this year, Tesla's wholesale sales in China were 32,968 vehicles, but 24,347 of them were exported, and sales in China were only 8,621. Tesla's recent frequent accidents and subsequent attitude seem to have made users lose their enthusiasm for this brand. Recently, Tesla has begun recruiting public relations and legal personnel in China. However, compared with public relations capabilities, how to improve vehicle safety and change the mentality of passing the buck when encountering problems are the issues that Tesla should give priority to.
