Why is the annual salary of Gree’s Dong Mingzhu and Lenovo’s Yang Yuanqing 20 times different?

According to public information in the media, Yang Yuanqing's annual salary is about 119 million yuan, and Dong Mingzhu's annual salary is about 5-6 million yuan, so there is a saying that the annual salary of Yang Yuanqing and Dong Mingzhu differs by 20 times.

Why is this?

1 Lenovo Group acquired IBM's PC business, and the acquired employees were paid according to American standards. Yang Yuanqing once explained why his annual salary was so high, because it could not be lower than that of American employees and American executives. In other words, according to Lenovo Group's salary system, Yang Yuanqing should be the person with the highest salary.

2 Although Lenovo has declined in recent years, it was once the pride of the nation, and Yang Yuanqing was a man of outstanding performance. We cannot continue to hold Lenovo accountable for its voting on the 5G standard.

3 Gree, which Dong Mingzhu is in charge of, has the government as its major shareholder, so it can be considered a state-owned enterprise to a certain extent. Since it is a state-owned enterprise, the salary is naturally not high. If you don’t believe it, look at the chairman and CEO of China Mobile, whose annual profit exceeds 100 billion yuan. Do they earn more than 10 million yuan a year? Obviously not. Dong Mingzhu can get an annual salary of 5-6 million yuan, which is already very high. It can only be said that different systems still have obvious restrictions on the salary of executives.

4. We cannot only look at Dong Mingzhu's salary. Salary is only a small part of her income. If you don't believe it, take a look: Dong Mingzhu is one of the top ten shareholders of Gree Electric Appliances, and stock dividends should be the bulk of her income. In the past three years (no dividends in 2017), the stock dividends exceeded 200 million yuan. In 2014, she received more than 60 million yuan, in 2015, she received 65.73 million yuan, and in 2016, she received nearly 80 million yuan. Therefore, Dong Mingzhu's annual salary is not just a few million yuan. Dividends are important. So in fact, Dong Mingzhu's annual salary is close to 100 million yuan.

5 And it is actually quite meaningless to compare wages or annual salaries. Jack Ma and Liu Qiangdong only get one yuan in annual salary, but both are regulars on the Forbes Rich List. Even if Yang Yuanqing and Dong Mingzhu have over 100 million yuan, they still cannot make it to the Forbes Rich List.
