On August 30, GAC Aion held an online press conference, officially releasing its super-speed battery technology that can achieve "charging for 5 minutes and driving for 200 kilometers" and the world's highest charging power A480 super charging pile. The mysterious AION challenge car from the SPEED++ team, equipped with super-speed battery technology, successfully achieved the result of "charging for 5 minutes and driving for 207 kilometers" and obtained the authoritative certification of the World Record Certification Agency (WRCA). Top experts, mainstream media and netizens from all over the country witnessed the birth of the "World Record for the Fastest Charging Speed ​​of Pure Electric Vehicles".

The world's fastest charging speed, 6 times the charging speed of super-speed battery technology

At present, the new energy vehicle market is booming at a high growth rate, but slow and difficult charging are still a major pain point that plagues the development of the industry. "Super-speed" refers to the high battery charging rate. The fastest charging rate of existing electric vehicles can only reach 200km in half an hour, while the super-speed battery technology achieves "5 minutes of charging and 200km of driving" at a charging rate of 6 times the fastest. It takes only the time to charge a cup of coffee and the battery life is enough to travel around the Greater Bay Area. It is currently the fastest charging battery technology in the world.

For a long time, the industry has generally placed the focus of technology on improving charging speed on the charging terminal rather than on power batteries. The main reason is that it is more difficult to make breakthroughs in battery technology than on the charging terminal. According to the working principle of battery charging, lithium ions start from the positive electrode, pass through the diaphragm and electrolyte, and reach the negative electrode, including three processes: extraction, migration, and embedding. The more lithium ions migrate and embed per unit time, the faster the charging speed. However, the low migration speed and low embedding efficiency of lithium ions are the key problems in improving charging efficiency, and have become two technical peaks that are difficult for industry experts to overcome.

In order to solve these two major problems, GAC adopted new technologies and materials such as high-porosity coated ceramic diaphragms, new low-viscosity high-power electrolytes, and unique soft carbon/hard carbon/graphene coating modification technologies. More importantly, in order to find the best formula, a large number of material formulas and process design verifications were carried out over the past 7 years. Ultimately, a comprehensive improvement in migration rate, embedding speed, and conductivity was achieved, greatly accelerating the lithium ion migration process and achieving super-speed charging. Among them, graphene as a conductive agent played a vital role.

As we all know, although graphene is a revolutionary material, it is actually very difficult to master its preparation technology. At present, common graphene preparation methods generally require a strict laboratory environment for support, and can only be extracted on a small scale. As one of the earliest companies in China to conduct commercial research and development of graphene, GAC has mastered the independently developed three-dimensional structured graphene (3DG) preparation technology and has formed a complete patent group. This gives GAC a strong first-mover advantage and extremely high technical reserves in the application of graphene materials and fast-charging batteries. The increase in the voltage platform means that the core three-electric system and a series of components such as the air-conditioning compressor must work normally under high voltage. The Porsche Taycan, the first in the industry to mass-produce an 800V high-voltage platform, has increased its maximum charging power to 350kW, and can charge the power battery from 5% to 80% in 22.5 minutes. GAC Aion has gone a step further and created the industry's most advanced high-voltage platform, with a maximum operating voltage of 880V and a maximum charging power of 480KW, achieving a 5-minute charging time and a range of 200 kilometers. At present, GAC Aion's super-speed battery technology has passed the mandatory inspection and certification of the National Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, and will be gradually installed in the AION family series of models. The A480 supercharging pile with the highest charging power in the world accelerates the deployment of supercharging

As the saying goes, "a good horse deserves a good saddle", the ultimate super-speed battery technology also needs to be matched with the ultimate super-charger. At present, the power of fast charging piles and super-charging piles on the market is generally between 60kW-180kW, and the peak output power of the best-performing Tesla V3 charging pile is only 250KW. It generally takes 15-40 minutes to charge for a range of 200 kilometers. The charging time is long and the experience is poor, and it cannot meet the charging requirements of super-speed batteries. Due to the slow charging speed, it also causes the inefficiency of the public charging network, which has become the biggest obstacle to market development. Taking Guangzhou as an example, 700 gas stations can serve 3 million fuel vehicles, but 2,300 public charging stations serve only 300,000 electric vehicles. "A" is the first letter of AION, and also represents A-level high performance, while "480" represents the world's highest power of 480kW. The super charging pile has four major features: ultra-high power, ultra-high safety, ultra-high intelligence, and ultra-high appearance. It has the world's highest charging power of 480kW, a peak power of up to 1000V, a current of 600A, and adopts a liquid-cooled charging system and AION's exclusive sci-fi water drop design.
